It would have been the end of me that day had you not saved me from making an irreversible mistake and paying the ultimate price... Swiss, you didn't just save me from death, but you saved me from living another day without cause or purpose.
Swiss, from my story, Fleeting Friendship.
I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I opted to use thicker lines than usual and am satisfied with the result. I might try that in the future, because it helps make some lines stand out a bit more, which is a good effect. I also simply had to shade this properly, because Swiss is one of my favorite characters from my stories and she really needed a tribute.
I decided to give her somewhat different eyes in comparison to usual Shinx eyes. The style I used give her more of a cute look. I don't make a habit of mixing things up, but sometimes it has nice results. :3
The background is sort of abstract, but it was fun to do because it's not my usual sort of I-don't-care abstract, but one with a lot of soft colors that seemed to be appropriate to her. The yellow is almost like a sun shining down on her and fits well with her shading. I don't know if they're clouds or just blobs, but I like 'em.
She's so cute. This is so gonna be my wallpaper on my laptop~ <3

You're right to be pleased with this one, she looks adorable! ^^ And not only that, there's something about her whole form that I like. It may be the thicker lines that you mentioned, they work really nicely. The way you made the background was a nice choice for the pic too. :3
Aww, well thank you! ^^
I'm unsure as to whether or not I like the thick-line look in my art or if I prefer a thinner line approach. I have such a shaky hand when it comes to drawing, so I find thick lines help mask it a little bit better, but I've always wanted to do nice, clean lineart with thin lines... so I just dunno. ^^;

You're welcome. :3
There's a good shortcut to steady, smooth lineart and it's called Easy Paint Tool SAI. x3 I fell in love with the program in an instant, and I doubt I could think of doing digital inking without it anymore. (That is, when I want it to look actually inked and not just sketched.) You should really check it out and find a tutorial on SAI inking in Youtube to get started, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the rest.

I played around with SAI in the past and got so scared that I wound up ditching it, but now I really have a desire to learn it very well. Everything I've heard makes it sound like a very powerful program and I think I'm at a point in my art where I want to see significant improvement in more than just the "lineart" (as in drawing the dang things in the first place, not necessarily even style of the lineart). Backgrounds, coloring, clean lineart, etc.
Already a few video tutorials looked quite interesting and filled me in on some of the basics. I'll force myself to do my next few drawings on that and see where it goes from there.
Are there any tutorials you'd recommend in particular?

I see, sorry to hear you've had bad experiences with SAI in the past. ^^; I'm sure it'll get better, most programs need some getting used to before they feel comfortable to work with. If you want, ask away and I'll help you with anything I can, though it might not be much. I wish you good luck and a lot of patience. x3
I couldn't find any that would've shown how I use SAI, but there's plenty on the curves tool that seems to be the most popular way; this one looks ok to me.
I just draw the rough lineart over the sketch at first (the pic looks awful after the first phase xP), then go trough the whole thing and fix it using mainly the line thickness tool. I think I should take a look at the curves tool too though.
