Calex was a pretty odd summoner and arcanist, rather than just summon a carbuncle he would become part one, and once he learned the dreadwyrm trance took on a dragon-like form so he could fight side by side with his carbuncle using his own claws. The arcanist guild has yet to decide if he is a prodigy or a complete failure. Either way, his Synthesis Summoning spells caught Zeelo's attention who wanted to try to learn them. So Calex lent Zeelo his grimoire and gave him instructions for the spell. Zeelo seems a bit confused. It looks like the spell only had a partial effect giving him a gem and ears. Calex can't help but giggle at his friend's mistake.
