I guess being old helps. Well, old enough to have got into Fairport just before Sandy Denny died. Yes, they had an amazing run of great albums, and even their mediocre ones from the 70's were still pretty good!

I stumbled upon a documentary on them on youtube just the other day. My favorite album was 'Nine' and songs, Polly on the Shore, and 'The Bridge Over The River Ash'.

Yeah, Nine is a surprisingly strong album, given the lineup changes. It has some good trad folk arrangements and instrumental numbers (even if one of them gets almost funky). I think it lacked any strong original songs, but I probably like it more than anything they did since 'Full House'. I thought the live album they produced when they added Sandy Denny to that lineup the next year was wonderful - actually it was the first Fairport album I heard, which probably helps.

same in my case... I heard 'Polly on the Shore on the radio while on watch (I think) in Portland, Oregon on the bridge of a buoy tender. I had to have it.

It was a very odd sounding chord, but I liked it :) Sandy Denny was one of the great female singers in rock (easily the best in folk-rock) IMO, and a great songwriter to boot.
