-) Oh damn Lincard! I love the golden spikes, that gives this boy such aesthetic appeal; I like this a lot more than black spikes. The flatness of the tail looks a lot different from previous renderings; and I love it.
-) I am confused by the arm positions; it seems almost they are ghosts on the body. I think it is just me. I understand the anatomy; but the artist made it looks...unusual. Hell, I don't care; It is epic.
-) EPID DAMMIT!!

Arm positioning probably looks a little ghosty because he has faded them slightly depending on which view you are looking at. But both sets are present and accounted for. Every artist comes up with their own interpretation of the design - I usually only provide a written description and encourage the artist to use a bit of artistic licence with it. As long as the basic physiology is there I am not too concerned with details
The flattish tail is kinda unusual but quite neat. As others have pointed out it almost makes him look aquatic in origin.

heh... with commissioning so many different artists and allowing them freedom in how they interpret the design, I've had some pretty cool looking versions drawn over the past couple of years.
The whole idea of the Vanguard is that they are supposed to be somewhat frightening and demonic in appearance. These are not the aliens you take home to momma Thanks for the comment too, btw

Have a squiz on my profile page, I put links to the stories there. The two main ones featuring Vanguard are quite long, novel length so just be warned
And you do not need to apologise! Every artist will see a different vision in their head when they read a description so it's not surprising that some of them will look a lot "friendlier" than others

This guy has some quite amazing art on his page. Definitely not cheap but damn is his work impressive. His work actually very much reminds me of your style and take on the characters. Based on a description he came up with something quite unusual and different exactly like you did with your take on my Vanguard boys
Well, technically Two-Talon loved him, but that's just 'cause he's an old softy, and probably going a little batty in old age. >;3
... though it probably helped that the first time they met each other, things got naughty shortly afterwards. XD
As for making you laugh... I like to think of it like this: You provide me with the ammunition, so I take it, pack it into a lolcannon, and shoot its spunky awesomeness all over you. :D

Two-Talon and HIG were from the first story - they were not involved with the asteroid based Ark ships that appeared at the end of Taniwha (second story). TT & HIG ended up living to a ripe old age
So, applying termites to my wood problem - is that akin to ants in the pants? Entomology might get YOU off, buster, but critters in my undies just freaks my shit right out.
Chainsaws are so murry purry...

Do I sound weird if I say that I would prefer meeting this critter in a dark alley one night than a human? With humans you mostly know what comes (they will most likely bash your brain in for fun), but with unknown creatures you can either get a pleasant surprise or a bad one. And that is a choice I can live with.
He may look dangerous and intimidating, but it's not always the outer layer that counts. :p
Maybe he have a heart of gold?

My friend, you are weird. But I like you like that. And I know exactly what you mean, although I would probably shit myself completely if I stumbled across something like this in a dark alley, good intentions or not
This is Hunts-In-Grass - started off as a bit of a hardass, but ended up being a bit of a softy in the first book.

Heh, you two have wildly different artistic styles though, yours tends more toward impressionistic than his realistic style. All this means is that your styles are more suited to themes with more emotional content than his.
In other words I would more expect to see works like yours hanging in a gallery and his on the cover of a book.

Damn dude, another awesome piece has made it's way into your gallery, and has now given me nightmares for the rest of my young and innocent life, I must now go and hide under the covers of my bed curl up in the fetal and whimper myself to sleep.
Seriously thought, awesome stuff here, I checked out 343guiltyspark DA page and he's got some kick ass artwork. The head is just fantastic, very demonic or dragonish like, just what you want to see peeking into your window at night right as you turn out the lights and go to bed.

Heh, that is the idea behind the Vanguard - they are supposed to be somewhat scary looking critters that would give you the shits if you ran into one unexpectedly. Most artists tend to render the more reptilian look to them than the demonic, however.
This is very cool, and the actual commission pic itself is promising to look pretty damned good, also.

I fuggin' came when I saw this.
And this is only the PROGESS shot?
I have a feeling I'm going to need a suitcase full of changes of clothes for when I see the final finished product.
In THIS case, I'm most impressed with how the artist got the Vanguard's head to look so jagged, leathery and rough, and yet at the same time have the body look so smooth, shiny, and probably-feels-good-to-rub-your-face-against-ey.
Nice design on the datapad, too. As it's tone is kind of like the Vanguard's skin, it almost has this organic feel about it.

You've seen the commission proper so you know that there are a lot of Maori designs at work here - Jim (the artist) is quite fascinated by proper tribal designs and incorporated them into the commission, and this concept pic as well in the datapad. He really did a great job of presenting the more demonic look that the Vanguard have and less of the lizard-like features that many artists incorporate. Shows in that unusual tail design as well.
I like it quite a lot. And yeah, rubbing my face againsty.... hehehehe... I know where you are coming from with that. As long as it is not vice-versa... ouchies.
