Boaz Bonesnapper; an gnollish exile-turned-adventurer. An adventurer-turned-hero. A hero-turned-god. The ascension of a being that could have been one of the countless ravenous devout of Yeenoghu, the daemon lord of ruin and as far as anyone knew, Master of the Gnollish race. Boaz was once one of the divine champions to a Elvish God of Magic, garnering the mischievous deity’s favour and tutelage until the moment of his true destiny came; the liberation of his people from the singular path that knew only wanton evil and servitude to a careless master.
Conspiring through the realms, from the intrigue of Refenara to the rekindling of the wasting Gorellik, Boaz - chieftain of his former clan united with others by the rite of battle and conquest accepted by the vicious hyena-folk - earned Yeenoghu’s fiendish ire after restoring the true Hyena-King to a divine power. Slaying the Ruin-Lord’s champions and downing his altars, the vengeful Ruin-Lord’s avatar appeared only to find himself in a cunning and bold trap.
Hero-Diety Boaz and Gorellik met him in mortal combat, his abilities severed by the trickster magics of Boaz’s benefactor and met with the sight of his own ichor in the legendary Battle of Screaming Ridge. As dark power and lightning crossed and blackened the skies, trading blows and scarring one another. Yeenoghu proved a deadly foe even for the two duellists. When it seemed victory was in the Daemon Lord’s grasp, the conniving appearance of Refnara in the blackest of times and poisoned Yeenoghu in a mind-scattered scream that broke a dark hold on the first of Boaz’s followers.
Then, the Ruin-Lord was ran through by Gorellik’s spear and with a scream to the heavens, Boaz sent Yeenoghu howling vengeance with the swing of Stormbreaker, his blessed dwarven axe - the same axe he’ve wielded since the start of his great journey to this point. To bring more insult, Boaz used the spewing powers of Yeenoghu with the prepared rituals in the same altars ruined to become a weapon of shattering the daemon’s hold on many clans with an enlightenment that may save the gnolls from the overwhelming influence he held on their bloodlines. In this selfless act that sought neither elevation nor recognition, Boaz was upon by his host and his allies made as the Gnoll to defy Yeenoghu.
The Gods, patroned by Boaz’s elevator, gave him divine rank of demigod. A newborn divine to this new era for his people. Turning to the two who stood with him as co-conquerors of Yeenoghu’s ancient crime to their old rule, Gorellik and Refnara looked and for their own respect, accepted him as kin.
Together, the three became the Trivurminate of the True Clans. The beginning of a hundred years, growing more powerful into a lesser god with the generations of their worshippers and surviving the Spellplague’s events. The constant war with Yeenoghu and his more infernal-chained clans that the world continues to be plagued by, Boaz does not falter. The Prince-God of the Gnoll and the advocate of the gnollish adventurers, he continues to watch his charges through the thunderous storms that he brew.
Boaz Bonesnapper is a ‘old’ character and regarded as my second ‘sona, certainly my first official DnD character back in 3.5 right after graduating from high school. A Gnoll Fighter who managed to survive jumping over fire and got a Dwarven Battleaxe on his first adventure, that continued to be his trademark weapon for this long on an adventure by one of the best GMs I had the pleasure of playing with. This is his 2020 remake with some upgrades.
