Ari is trans-feminine, she uses all female pronouns and when asked about her gender answers simply "female" - mostly she's tired of answering nosey questions and dealing with the endless "but why not..."/"but why" type responses. She joins the band a bit later in the story, and uses the money earned to pay for her bottom surgery. This is her daily attire, and yes she loves being colorful: her personality as well as her clothing.
