It's always been evident that Todd is really terrible at being a tiger. They're traditionally badass and grumpy and loners, of which he is none.
So awhile back we came up with the idea that his mother is some kind of canine (to recap, the species in my world completely carry over to the offspring based on the genders, unless they're relatively close, in which case some overlap/hybridizing may occur). I kicked around the idea of an Irish setter (Todd is, officially, half Irish, half Indian), but it just seemed cuter to make her a golden retriever. And while Cody closely takes after his father, Todd's father is...........well, let's just say Todd gets his body from his mother's side. Exactly how his parents met will be shown in the comic later. Amusingly, Todd's surname was supposed to be based on Shere Khan, but it's such an Irish name, it seemed more suitable that his father opted to take his wife's name, simply because it's easier to spell/pronounce (I know that pain). Plus, she's a doctor and legally couldn't change her name. We'll likely retcon it so it's actually O'Connor.
And to further drive home the good-natured canine side, he has six sisters--he's the second youngest. The older sisters are warm, friendly, supportive, and very close, as a good golden retriever family should be! They're all smart and pretty and sweet, and I tried to give a good spread of archetypes; at least one is heavily athletic, one is into science, one is a lawyer, etc. His father is a somewhat gruff and distant engineer, and sort of the blunt, intellectual type. He very much approved of Todd's relationship with Cody, since he felt Todd needed more...masculinity in his life. The youngest sister, despite being a canine, inherited her father's personality, and is clearly daddy's little girl. She also gets along best--not surprisingly--with Cody.
We're still hashing out names (it'd be cute if they alternated between traditional Irish names and traditional Indian names for their kids), but I just hashed this out cuz I wanted something cute at the time. They're not going to have a HUGE role in From Russia With Lust, so I'm not going to go heavily into them here, but there will be a sequence where Cody and Jake visit Todd's family.
At first I was wondering if it made sense to have another big family, but well...canines have litters, so I imagine they're big on having large families (hence Jake and his brothers as well), compared to something like a horse or a tiger that have fewer children at a time, hence, say, Cody and Cindy being only children.
Eh, that's all for now, the comic will explore more of this.

A Tiger as an Engineer, I can see that and awww, him dealing with a family of happy strong Women. In a way funny, yet cute. Also "O'"Conner, I can see that. "I didn't want the O' in my name. Apostrophes just makes things more difficult. Yeah, it can >.> All the while, yes... long last names are... OH so funny, especially when people mispronounce it.
That does make sense in a Zoological standpoint, though gosh, it'll just be funny seeing Jake get a long and Cody is all "how do you remember everyone's names"?

I suppose that's not exactly the stereotype for tiggies, is it?
Teh hubby wants the O to just have been a clerical error, I may have to go back and see how often I actually SAID his surname within i.s.o.
Don't even get me started!
Don't look at me, I am shite with remembering names =X

Ya know, I don't know. With Tiger's being solitary it's possible that with more lady's it's that way. Hmm...
I... can actually believe that being true in so many ways considering how often I've had to correct insurance companies over "O'" issues as well as just so many licences that skip it.
Hurhurhur, I won't. When it comes down to it, last names are just *raspberries.* Also, HA! I can be quite the same way. XD

Oh man, the more I see/read these, the more eager I am getting. *gets popcorn, soda, and comfy chair ready*
Wow! I never would've imagined Todd having a large family. Even though they have a small part, it'll still just as interesting.
I wonder if Todd and his buff sister workout together too. Or even rival each other.

I love the variety in the family and that they're from two different species, I'm a big fan of that, as you know. Their personalities are very much reflected in their looks, and mind you, I love the fact that the dad is short. Short man and tall woman is something not seen often outside old cartoons, and I dunno why, but something about short men really hits home for me, I think short guys can be so absolutely sexy when done right.
Yes, yes you are! The hubby had some way of working it out genetically...kinda goes over my head, I only took a year of biology.
I actually have no idea how tall you are. I've been short all my life so it's difficult for me to say...most guys are taller than I am, and I rather like it that way XD (teh hubby has 10" on me. Heightwise, not...oh, you know what I mean!) There is definitely a draw to the short-wall-built guy, yassss...you probably know of Tremorwolf, and one of our neighbors is not far off either <3

Best part of furry stuff, you can make it work however you want. Just look at my twins, and my Scottish lion with a skunk mom. You guys made it work quite well too.
I'm around 5'8", and that's only because I hit an after-adult growth spurt at around age 19, as I used to be several inches shorter.
I didn't know of Tremorwolf, but yes, the short but strong guys, even if not all-out muscular, but tough and stocky, oof, they rally do a number on my senses, I like.
