Café Husky
Chapter 13
The ride back to your apartment was a short and uneventful one. The traffic wasn’t too hateful, and you pretty much hit every single green light. You were on your way back to your apartment with your boyfriend Husk’s belongings. Husk told his parents he was gay, and they pretty much kicked him out right after. You found out today however that it was mostly because of his mom that he got kicked out, with her having an unexplained resentment for gay furs and furs like them. You learned all of this through Husk’s dad Elan, who was pretty much just like an older, more Southern Husk. He sat you down on the front steps of his house, and confronted you about your relationship with Husk, and he got it out of you that the two of you were dating. You were scared at first that he would be furious at you, but that wasn’t the case. He was actually exactly the opposite, explaining how his son has been so much happier since the two of you have been together. He also seems to be trying to accept you into the family, teasing you, picking you up in his strong, toned arms, and carrying you around his house. It made you remember the old days, back before you left your house, and left your unaccepting family behind.
Maybe you could have family again.
You pull up into your apartment complex, parking in a space with two available spaces right next to it. There is a giant moving truck sitting in the parking lot. How odd that someone will move in on the same day as Husk is. You turn off the ignition in your car, and get out, your short fennec body being able to get out of your short car easily. You wave your beige hand at the approaching Husk and Elan, both riding in their separate vehicles, which were all needed to carry everything that Husk owned to your apartment. Husk hops out first, his brown tinged white fur looking as lush as ever on his chubby body. He stares at you with loving eyes, the blue and brown irises shining brightly in the sun overhead. It’s going to get dark soon, so you had better hurry up and get everything inside, so you don’t have to lug everything in the dark.
Elan soon joins the two of you, the buff, 6’3” white husky walking up behind you and wrapping his strong arms around the both of your shoulders, “So boys, ready ta get this boy moved in? We got a lot to move, so let’s git to it!”
The three of you walk off into the apartment building, ready to get started on the project of moving everything into your house.
When the three of you are outside the door to your apartment, you can feel the ground shake beneath your feet, and when looking towards the direction of your next-door neighbor’s apartment, all of your jaws drop at the massive surprise standing there.
Quite literally.
Moving in and out of the apartment is the now fat forms of the once slim fox, Trent, and his panda boyfriend, Jack. They were carrying boxes full of their things, obviously being the meaning behind the moving truck outside. Their bodies are nearly twice the size as they were two days ago, but they were still moving with the same vigor as before they were big. Their bodies now had a golden hue over them, causing their beings to emit an attracting glow, drawing the three fur’s eyes toward them.
The now golden Jack turns toward you guys, before waving at them, his flabby arms shaking from the exertion, as he walks over. You see Trent walking behind him, trying to hide his bigger bulk around his now smaller boyfriend, looking nervous to be seen at his new size, “Hey guys! Apollo! And… Husk, wasn’t it? It’s great to see you again! And Apollo, another friend I see! That’s always great! We love seeing you meet new people! Isn’t that right Trent?”
Trent juts out from behind his boyfriend, his belly jiggling from the sudden movement, “Y-yeah. I-it’s always great to meet new people…” You see Trent fidget his now chubby golden fingers, obviously uncomfortable around people with his new size.
Jack looks back at his boyfriend, and he can see the uncomfortable look in his. He turns back towards you, addressing your group, “Sorry about him guys. He’s uncomfortable with his new size!” He leans into your ear, before whispering something to you, “I just think he needs a little more encouragement, but that’s just me.” He winks at you, before backing up again, causing a chuckle to escape your lips.
You finally get your wits back at seeing the now bigger furs, and manage to speak up, gesturing towards the boxes sitting on the ground, “So… are you the ones moving out? It seems really sudden doesn’t it?”
Jack rubs a paw over the back of his head, “Ummmm… Yeah. We kind of got a new job that requires us to move… The boss there is really cool, and he hooked us up with a new home and everything! So, we’re packing up our stuff to move to our new house!”
You just nod my head; they were the only furs who had actually talked to you since you moved in. They had even invited you over for dinner once! It was sad to see them go. You turn back toward them, a look of sadness filling your eyes as you look upon the giant forms of your now old neighbors, “Just ummmm… remember that you can come back and visit any day of the week. My apartment is always open for you guys. And hey, maybe I’ll cook you some dinner!” You grab ahold of Jack’s large stomach, and jiggle it around, causing the panda to moan as his body ripples from your aggressive jostling, waves rolling along his fat body as you continue to shake it, captivated by the soft bulk of his belly. You force yourself to let go, a giant blush on your cheeks, as everybody looks at you. You rub the back of your head, before speaking up nervously, “Ummm… Sorry about that… I got a little carried away…”
Jack blushes at you jiggling his belly, all of his smooth demeanor gone from that one action, as he shakily speaks up, “U-Umm… Yeah! T-that sounds like a great idea! Just te-tell us when you want us, and we can c-come over!”
“Y-yeah, I’ll be sure to tell you guys! We have to go though; we’re helping Husk move into my apartment today, and we need to get everything done before it gets dark!”
Jack looks both Husk and you over, before he nods his head, something obviously clicking in his head, “Well you guys get to it! We’ll be unloading out apartment as well, so we’ll definitely see each other before we head out! Good luck you guys!”
“Same to you guys!”
You wave goodbye to the two chubsters, before you unlock the door, and your party of huskies follows you inside your tiny apartment.
Once inside, Elan being to look around the tiny apartment in rapt attention, examining every little thing that you owned. He was slowly nodding his head, and you begin to think that maybe he was checking to see if Husk could live here. After a moment more of him taking everything in, he turns back towards you and Husk, his giant body intimidating you every time you look at is, with his defined muscles bulging any time he made any sort of small movement, and his overall giant build towering over your small body. He had a tough but kind looking face, showing that he would protect those he cares about. Yet right now, all you could feel was fear for what he was going to say.
He turns around, and stares into your deep brown eyes. After a minute of him staring straight into your eyes. He nods his head, a smile curling at the corner of his lips, “Okay. Aah guess it’s settled.”
He doesn’t offer any explanation, and Husk grabs your hand behind your back, trying to make sure you stayed strong under his dad’s watchful eye. Your other hand moves up to your fox necklace, and you clasp it in your hands, worried just as much about what he could mean. You speak up, a slight tinge of hopefulness in your voice, “W-what’s settled Elan?”
He looks at you, before a guttural laugh escapes his lips, his whole body shaking from the exertion of his hearty laugh. Husk starts nervously laughing behind you, but you can’t convince yourself to laugh along, you were way too nervous.
After a minute of nonstop laughing, Elan looks at you again, wiping a tear from his eyes brought out by his laughter, and staring straight at you, a smile plastered across his face, “Well, what’s settled is that Ezhno can stay here.”
Your eyes widen in surprise at hearing that news. He was going to end up staying here anyway, but hearing Elan confirm it was something neither of you expected. You turn towards Husk, and you can see the look of excitement in his face, before he lunges himself at you, wrapping you up in a tight and rapturous hug, lifting you off the ground, before he speaks to you, “Fen! Did you hear that?! I can live here! Oooohh, it’s so exciting!”
You pat Husk on the shoulder, before he realizes he has been lifting you up in front of his father, and he sets you down, a look of embarrassment on his face. You stare into his two different colored eyes, captivated by them, before you speak up, his cute face giving you confidence, “I know! You were going to end living here anyway, but it’s still exciting!”
Elan laughs at your enthusiasm, before he speaks up, his voice loud and calming to your ears, “Now wait a minute now! Don’t think aah can’t pull one over on ol’ Dai back at the house! I can move him somewhere quick!”
You both turn to look at his serious face, and after a minute, he starts billowing out with laughter, seeing the gob smacked looks on both of your faces, “Ain’t that the funniest looks you got there! Aah wouldn’t do that to you! I can see the compassion between you two, and I wouldn’t want to ruin that! You guys can stay together!”
You can only sigh aloud at the cajoling Elan was giving you, the muscular husky guffawing with laughter at your misfortune, before he places a heavy paw on your shoulder, and stares into your eyes, “Now why don’t we start unpacking some things? It’s gonna be sun down soon, and we want to get it done before then! We can’t go moving things in the dark very easily, now can we?”
Staring at Elan’s eyes, you can’t help but feel safe, staring deep into the brown portals. You can see the caring the man has for you, even after such a short amount of time knowing him. He must really like you. It must be because of Husk, and your mind can’t help but wonder if Elan would like you as much if you didn’t know Husk.
You nod your head, staring into the husky’s eyes, “Yeah! You’re right! Let’s get this done! We may have to dodge around Trent and Jack, which will be… a challenge, to say the least… But we can at least get this started!”
You look over to Husk, seeing a smile spread across his face. He stares into your eyes for a moment, before nodding his head, clearly ready to start.
You start heading out of your apartment, the two huskies in tow, as you walk down to your vehicles, ready to get Husk moved in.
The moving process did not take long at all, and the only thing that took a bit too long to relocate was Husk’s desk, which took all three of you moving up the stairs of the apartment to make sure it didn’t fall and break or anything. Elan seemed to be more comfortable talking with you now, taking shots at you constantly, and never in too dour of a mood to joke around. You were happy that Elan was being as jovial as he was, considering the circumstances. His son was leaving the house, and from what you could tell, he didn’t want Husk to leave yet.
Jack and Trent were up and down the elevator as well, carting everything important from their apartment out into the moving vehicle. There were a few unfortunate collisions that left you blushing afterward, feeling the doughy furs chest up against you, being enveloped by their soft warmth. Other than that, everything went by pretty smoothly. The five giant boxes fit perfectly inside of your apartment. Even if you didn’t grab everything that belonged to Husk, you still grabbed most of the things that he owns out of his house, leaving you with plenty of things to place around the tiny apartment.
The next hour after you moved everything up to the apartment was spent rearranging some of the things that you owned. Husk’s desk was shoved up against the window, his expensive pc placed atop it. You had to be careful dusting around that one.
The boxes were promptly shoved into the bedroom, and you told Elan that you and Husk would look through it later once he was gone. It was almost time for dinner anyway, and you told them you would treat them tonight. You had taken out chicken thighs, and you were planning on baking them in the oven. You shove the marinated chicken thighs in the oven, after letting them sit in the fridge with a honey and teriyaki glaze that is sure to wow the huskies. While waiting for that to cook, you go and sit next to Husk and Elan, who had retired to the couch for the night. You had grabbed a few bottles of water for the furs, and you gave them their cold beverages.
They each take a sip, before you turn toward Elan, looking at his deep brown eyes, a tinge of sadness in his eyes. It must have all hit him at once, looking at all of Husk’s belongings in your apartment. His son was really moving out. He was moving away from home, and there was nothing he could say at this point to stop it.
You place a paw on his shoulder, trying to console the man whose reason for living was suddenly gone. He looks at you, his face contorting into a look of pure sadness. You can see the hesitation in his eyes, so you get up, and speak up suddenly, “I’m uhhh… I gotta go to the bathroom. Have fun you two!” You wink at Elan as you walk back toward the bathroom, wanting to give the two family members some time to talk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watch as my boyfriend walks off to the bathroom, the cute fennec leaving me alone with my dad. And upon looking at him, I can see how distraught he is. My strong and confident dad looks like his life had just been torn apart. Tears were starting to form in his eyes, as he stares at my face.
He takes a shaky breath, staring into my eyes, before he speaks up, his voice cracking and uneven, “Ezhno… aah’m sorry it came to this… aah never wanted you ta move out. It was your mom… you know how she can get…”
I place a hand on my dad’s shoulder, soothing the broken man before me, “It’s okay Dad. I know what you mean. And don’t blame mom, I shouldn’t have kept this from you for so long, maybe it would have been better if I told you sooner, then it wouldn’t have been so bad.”
Dad wipes the tears from his eyes, letting out a half-hearted chuckle, “Son. You know as well as aah do that wouldn’t change anything.”
I look down at the ground, tears starting to well up in my eyes, “Yeah… you’re right.”
He places a heavy hand on my shoulder, and I feel my eyes well up more, before he starts again, “Aah know aah could have done this under better circumstances… But aah made you a going away present, just so you can remember that I’m here for you… It can be hard to move away from home, so I hope this… makes it a little easier.”
I see my dad reach into his pocket, before he takes out a small box. He hands the box to me, and I look at him, tears beginning to stream down my face, as I open up the box.
Inside was a necklace, and on the end of it were little wooden keychains. One of them had a little blueberry, smiling up at me with a goofy face. Another was a fishing lure, probably to reference all the times him and I had gone out fishing on the lake. The last one though was a replica of our family, with my mom and dad hugging me between their faces. I can see all the intricate designs carved into the wood, from the expressive eyes of my parents, to the soft looking fur shared between us. We all had happy expressions on our faces, despite the sad week we’ve all had. I look up to my dad through tears stained eyes, my voice cracking while speaking to him, “Dad… I don’t know what to say… When did you find time to make this?”
My dad rubs the back of his head with a strong paw, and I can see the tears starting to roll down his cheeks, “Ummm… aah’ve been working on it over the last few days… aah put everything else on hold so aah could get it done…”
I look down at the necklace again, and the wooden figures. They are all so perfect. Form the happy blueberry, to the fishing lure, to our once perfect family. I look to my father again, and I lurch forward, wrapping him in a tight hug. He wraps his arms around me and holds me tight, resting his snout against the top of my head. I can’t help but sob into his chest, everything hitting me all at once. From being kicked out of his house, to my dad accepting Fen, despite his reservations towards gay people, and the necklace that Dad made for me, detailing all of the happy things from my life. I stay wrapped up in his chest, sobbing and sobbing, not able to stop the tears from freely falling down my face, dampening my dad’s chest with the constant waterfall of tears. He rubs his paws along my back, trying to soothe me, as he whispers smoothly into my ears, “Aah know Son. Let it out. Aah know.”
After a couple more minutes, I detach myself from my father, my tears having calmed into a sprinkle compared to the deluge it was before. I stare into my father’s face, seeing the worry and sadness in his eyes, and yet, he has a smile plastered across his face, grinning from ear to ear. I stare at him for another minute, before finally speaking up, “I love you Dad. I don’t know what I did to deserve you…”
Dad laughs at me, his laugh echoing throughout the small apartment, as he places a calloused paw on my shoulder, and speaks up, his voice loud and clear, “Ezhno… aah love you too son. You have been an amazing son. Don’t let the past week fool you. Aah know so much has happened in the last week, but the last thing aah want you to start thinking is that your mother and aah don’t love you. We love you beyond what you can imagine…” He wipes a tear away from his eyes, “It’s just… a weird circumstance. Your mother and I had talked about getting ready to sit down with you about moving out of the house and finding your dream job, and the whole ‘gay thing’ kind of sped things along…” He stares into your eyes, before shoving his head in his paws, his voice low, “Aah’m sorry son… We should have told you sooner… instead of resorting to drastic measures…”
I place a paw on my dad’s shoulder, staring at his head leaning down, before I speak up, trying to keep my voice soothing, “It’s okay Dad. I totally understand. You don’t need to explain it to me. I found Fen, and he’s going to take good care of me, I just know it. You don’t have to be worried anymore. I have a place to live, and someone who cares about me supporting me. I’ll be fine.”
Dad looks at me, his cheeks matted with tears, before he nods his head, “You’re right Son… you have your boyfriend here to take care of you… aah don’t have to worry anymore.” He looks down at me, and I can see a genuine smile cross his face, satisfied with the answer you’ve given him. I can’t help but smile back at my dad, knowing that everything was going to be okay.
A consistent beeping sound from the oven breaks me out of your trance, and I look toward the stove, where a heavenly scent hits my sensitive nose. My mouth starts to salivate just thinking about the scrumptious chicken thighs. Fen walks out of his bedroom, and heads toward the stove, he grabs some pot holders, and takes the chicken from the oven, placing it on the stove delicately, so as not to jostle the perfect chicken. I can see from my vantage point that the chicken is cooked perfectly, the crispy breading on the outside looking absolutely delicious. He also somehow made frozen green beans and some mashed potatoes to compliment the heavenly meal. I don’t know when he had the time to do any of that, but all of it seemed to be cooked to absolute perfection, if my limited cooking skill meant anything.
Fen takes out small plates to put the food on, placing them on the marble island located in the center of the kitchen, with the chairs located behind the counter being perfectly lined up with the plates. My boyfriend puts the pots of food in front of all of the plates, before he ushers us to the table. I laugh at his sudden showmanship, loving how he gets when he’s trying to show off. That’s my boyfriend. The goof who loves me, despite my flaws, and is willing to stand by me, and deal with my sass, as we begin to live with each other.
I sit down at the marble countertops, and look at the food laid out before me. Fen really can cook! Everything looks so good! The potatoes looked soft and fluffy, and were devoid of any lumps. The green beans were cooked perfectly with some peppers and unions, the group of vegetables complimenting each other perfectly, if the smell meant anything. And the chicken looked absolutely divine. The crispy skin looked near perfect against the supple and yielding flesh of the meat, which was flowing with juices and spices, the honey teriyaki glaze making the chicken smell like the best thing on Furth due to your hungry stomach. I can see the other two men already got their share, so I fill my plate with as much food as I can. The plate nearly overflowing with the massive amounts of food I piled onto the plate. I look at the perfect food one last time, before digging in!
