She closed her eyes and bent all her thought to the seed nestled in her palm, feeling a warm tingling in her fingertips as the magic inherited from her Maiar bloodline flowed through them. The seed split and a tendril, tiny at first, crept slowly out and then upwards. As it reached toward the sunlight above, it sprouted its first leaves, attaining growth in an instant that would have taken days otherwise. This was her gift - the ability to coax and shape all greenery to its fullest form in mere moments. Though shrub, vine and flower were within her scope, she could create forests where once was barren land if she put her energy to it...
A little something I had in my head for about a month or so before I actually put it on paper. I hadn't done a good Luthien piece in a while, and I was itching to try another tall format image. I wanted to take my time with this one, really focus in on the details and making sure I get her expression, her clothing, the whole mood, the way I envisioned it. I'm starting to give a lot more thought to Luthien's background and who she is, what she's capable of and how it all fits into the setting I've placed her in within the Middle Earth universe. I've always thought of her as a little left of what's considered typical for an Elf, but with this piece I wanted the reasons why she's different to start to unfold. Her namesake's mother was Maiar, which led me to the idea that perhaps she has Maiar blood somewhere in her ancestry, a few generations back maybe, with a bit of that demi-god energy passed down that gives her the magic Green Thumb.
The butterflies are stickers and also 3D, so the scan kept coming out with blurred spots which is why you get a photo instead of a scan. I also drew her in one of the high court dresses from the wardrobe sets, I'd love to incorporate some of those designs into future pieces so this was a start. :)
Its also fitting that I upload this today, since today is a special milestone for me as a professional artist. Its been 10 years exactly since I left my last retail job and started doing Furry art full time. I'm not the type who would ever have made that leap on my own, it just sort of happened due to drama at my job, but I'm so glad the universe gave me that "little nudge out the door". ;) Its definitely been a journey and I think its far from over - but I'm proud of how I've grown and what I've learned along the way. There are pros and cons with any job, and being an artist is no different, but I consider the tradeoffs worth it to do something I love every day. It wouldn't be possible without all of you guys supporting me and buying my art, so I sincerely THANK YOU. I only want to go up from here, so here's to many more years of making beautiful art. <3
