This is Maui, and Kona, the brother & sister Huskies we adopted some two years ago now. As you can observe from this picture, they're totally adapted to us and feel no fear whatsoever. They even willingly help me clean the dinner dishes.
I don't know who turned them in to the Humane Society, but I suspect they'd just had a baby and the dogs no longer fit their lifestyle. (I just don't understand how people can treat animals so poorly.) I say this about a baby because in the first week we had them, Maui barfed up, first, a baby booty, then a baby sock, and then a complete pair of baby pants. (Thank God he didn't get a bowl obstruction.) I suspect he was very unhappy, and was acting out.
We adopted them as a pair because the HS said they had never been separated. On the occasion I would take one of them out with me, the other absolutely displays anxiety.
There is not a mean bone in their bodies. My grandson, as an example, came for a visit, and proceeded to mount Maui like a horse. Maui, for his part, lay there and let him do it without so much as a grumble.
Yes, we spoil them rotten. In return, they give us lots and lots of love.
If you are thinking of finding a life long friend, please go and visit your local shelter.

Reading up on what came out of that one dog I get the feeling the mother was afraid the baby would be next. Lovely huskies there and that upside down sleeping pose was a favorite of my old one Shandi. Usually twisted a little too. Dad and I would comment that we'd need a chiropractor if we slept like that
me too! I'm forever taking pictures of them because they are such clowns, and they touch my heart so strongly... last night I made myself a cup of tea after dinner, and both of them would not leave me alone. I share coffee with them every morning, but they absolutely love tea.

actually, except for maybe one incident, nothing at all... we give them lots of love and I think that made all the difference. Just don't leave a cup of tea out where they can reach it. I should back up a bit - I share my morning coffee with them. (not that much quantity wise). Well, our last Husky used to absolutely crave tea. Come to find out, so do these two. I left my cup on the chair side table to do something in the kitchen, and when I came back it was completely empty. Needless to say they were both wearing their halos...

thank you Sibeor...
we were going to get one from an actual Husky rescue, but sometimes organizations can be a little narrow minded... they turned us down saying we were too old to properly care for a Husky. Gloria and I laughed about that and then ended up with two of them...

Yay! Adopting for the win! We have 2 humane society adopted chihuahua mixes. One was brought in as a stray, the other was given up for the previous family had too many. So many unwanted dogs in shelters wanting loving homes. I can’t believe that so many people only consider breeders. If i had all the space, time, and money I’d bring home all the shelter dogs.
My four latest dogs (including my current pair) have all been adopted. They are different breeds with one thing in common: they have all been deaf. Petfinder.com has an option to search for pets with special needs. I encourage people to click it if they feel like they can help.
Yep a couple of lovely couch-taters you have there. They are relaxed and know they are safe. My three malamutes were rescues, two of whom were abused. It took Sage and Tundra a bit to understand they were not going to be hurt, then they started to come out and shine.
I enjoy northern breed furry kid because they are upbeat.

Awww! Day is the adorbs! Sorry brain goes to much where cute puppers are concerned. Yu got some real fun fluff right there. I love huskies. So curious, friendly, and playful by nature. Never met one that did not treat me like a friend. In fact they have tendency not to leave you alone if they find out you are dog person. They are very keen in that respect as are most dogs.
I want me some of this goodness. You and yours are truly lucky to have found these lovable balls of fwuff! May they never disappoint you!

Hard to be stressed with one of these guys enjoying your attention then have them snuggle up to you... most of the time with an ear on your body... it took me a bit to understand why... so they can hear your heart beat... this is why puppies and kittens like to cuddle in the crook of your neck. And adult dogs like to tuck their muzzle under your chin and press into you.
I didn't know that... these two are funniest when I flop down on the bed alone. That's when they jump up and mob me. I love when they lay there doing the 'Happy Dog Dance' - both front paws together and moving as if they are scooping away at something unseen... and always with a smile on their face...

*laughs... you have to be ready for that one because it's not shedding - it's more like it's snowing hair. It's especially bad a day after a bath. I have a steel fingered comb fashioned like a garden rake (it's called a rake) and I can show you a large wire mesh waste basket full of hair. In fact, I have one picture where I was playing around, with the removed hair and I look just like Santa Clause. My best advice is get a Dyson Animal, which is a battery powered vacuum specially made for this sort of thing. It's expensive but well worth the cost.

Years ago I used a garden rake to rake my bedroom carpet from all the hair my two pups had been shedding, and it filled a laundry basket. I'd been neglecting the vacuuming. Anyway, as I've been without any doggies for over 2 years now I've been thinking so much about getting a couple of them and wondering what breeds to get. Granted, anyone in a shelter needs a good home regardless of their breed, but there are various factors like how docile they are since they'll probably have to stay the day with my mom while I'm at work, and not get so restless they trash the house if left home alone. Coat length and shedding is one concern, although a minor one. Another thought is those various breeds who commonly have their ears and tails lopped off; if I can adopt one or two who are young enough that they haven't had that inflicted on them yet, I can save them from such a barbaric bit of human vanity.
so far, the Huskies and Malamute I've had I found to be very gentle, though we fostered a mother Pitbull who was the most loving animal ever. We were ready to go back and get her, as we always watch them to make sure they got adopted when a lady took her home. She actually contacted me for information, and they were a match made in heaven. I've also had several other breeds and only a few (we had seven dogs at one point) were oil and water. I had one female Dal who would go schizo every now and then and go on the attack, but only on our other little dog, and a Lab mix female and English Bulldog female who took turns trying to kill each other. Otherwise, all of them were wonderful dogs.

Why do you torture them so? Can't you see how hard that table is? Or maybe you just don't care, you meanie.
Of six dogs who were 'mine-all-mine' over 40 years, all of them have been rescues. Cami has been here over seven years.
My brother has two boys, four and eleven (or so). Winston, the younger one, has about 1/8 Husky and 1/8 Malamute heritage -- and probably 1/4 Carolina Dog (think, Old Yeller.) Tonight he caught a feral cat in the pen -- and lost the quarrel. My brother spent about two hours with him at the emergency vet getting him patched back up. This is a 60-pound hunting machine beaten by a 10-pound (if that) cat.
