Kondo and his littermate Hatari are born to Kutesa, an exiled lioness who was dead set on placing her line on the Pridelands' throne at any cost. As soon as they are weaned, Kutesa begins raising them to someday usurp the throne. And while Hatari shows plenty of promise with his sneakiness and cunning mind, his brother Kondo wasn't the same, as he seemed to have inherited their father's stupidity.
Kutesa puts the two brothers through vigorous training as she wanted them to be strong for when they would someday claim the throne, and she is especially harsh towards little Kondo. She severely punishes him for his foolishness, whether it be a smack to the head or withholding food from him to teach him a lesson. Kutesa ends up taking it too far one day and Kondo ends up collapsing during an intense training session, beaten and bruised from his mother's sharp cuffs. Believing him to be a lost cause, Kutesa leaves him for dead and now focuses all her attention on Hatari.
But unbeknownst to either of them, Kondo didn't die. After Kutesa and Hatari were gone, he ends up being found by a hunting party from a nearby pride. After realizing that the cub wasn't dead, the lionesses take pity on him and take him back to their pride, a family of lions that made their home in a patch of territory with sparse trees and tall termite mounds. Kondo is initially taken aback by their kindness, as he only knew his mother's abuse and his brother's mocking, but he quickly warms up to them and the pride treats him as one of their own.
Kondo spends the rest of his life living happily with this small pride in the Outlands. He doesn't care what became of his mother and brother, as they were both dead to him. That was all behind him as he was now living with what he considered his true family.
Finally got around to drawing Hatari's littermate. He's the great-grandfather of Imara and Kasi.
