'Twas then did march the kings of old,
Their wind-blown flags in green and gold
And trumpets shook the dawn's bright mist
That in the leaves the sun had kissed
And down the hills streamed knights and squires,
Who peel'd the sun and rang the spires
With cries of joy that split the day
'Til sorrow's claws were held at bay
And all the world at last could see
An end to rage and misery
And dreamed a gilded age of love
When tigers lay with mourning doves
The kings and peasants looked and saw
A world a-tremble in its awe
And heaven singing hatred's thaw;
The shepherd sighed, the goat said "HA!"
Their wind-blown flags in green and gold
And trumpets shook the dawn's bright mist
That in the leaves the sun had kissed
And down the hills streamed knights and squires,
Who peel'd the sun and rang the spires
With cries of joy that split the day
'Til sorrow's claws were held at bay
And all the world at last could see
An end to rage and misery
And dreamed a gilded age of love
When tigers lay with mourning doves
The kings and peasants looked and saw
A world a-tremble in its awe
And heaven singing hatred's thaw;
The shepherd sighed, the goat said "HA!"
