Poor Louis. He went down with muffled pleas and sad little whimpers, begging the adorable captain not to do it. The sweet little squirrel had expected such better things. Friendly pirates, no worries, weeks spent sailing through the stars with songs filling the ship. Even if it wasn't all like the movies, he expected to at least have a chance. Maybe he'd be working the engine room for a time, but he knew if he tried hard, he could be a real pirate someday.

But that wasn't happening. Louis has found the biggest problem with a life of no rules. There's no one to save you when things go wrong. The pirate captain has decided that Louis would be wasted as part of his crew, so has decided to make the squirrel part of him instead. And there's nothing Louis can do about it. Vurga's bigger and stronger than him and none of the rest of the crew are gonna step in and save the poor recruit. Better him than them.

Louis certainly has some very understandable concerns about his new life, but they won't matter much for long. Vurga's gut is talented at claiming its prizes. Soon enough all that'll be left of Louis is a bit more softness. He'll have become a very real 'part' of a pirate crew, though in no condition to complain about it. All that'll remain is his slimy hat, burped up as a final reminder of what used to be a squirrel.

Vurga will probably toss it out of the airlock. Maybe someone will come across it drifting in the black. A little memorial for someone who wanted a pirate's life. And got one. Just not their own.
