[Scavengers] High Matriarch
Being a lone scavenger on the frontier is quite rare (and if you do, you're usually a freelancer in a boarding party).
Most tend to join "the clans", big organisations providing food, shelter, comrades for your future expeditions in exchange of a sizeable tithe of your last haul.
You rarely see "big ones" leading such organisations since most tend to embrace the merc life easily.
The one who manage to climb the social ladder, tho? you don't want to cross
other quick facts cuz I'm too lazy to write:
>the Frontier and its derelicts are divided between holdouts by the various clans that inhabit this hostile region
>they're not openly at war but peace is fragile... As such, the patriarchs and matriarchs tend to forge temporary alliances to maintain the status quo, resulting is some very intense power struggle at the top of the leadership
>the clans does not directly run the frontier, the political climate being a complete shit show of various guilds/clans/syndicates. They only run the buisiness of the boarding parties into the derelicts.
Other group hire mercs to protect themselves if the clans become too pushy.

And another picture for the setting :D You guys may remember the doodle from a while back and hey, I managed to clean it in between commissions (thx again patreons, u guys rock)

not at all
macros are not seen as something special since there is way scarier shit into the derelicts
patriarchs and matriarchs (not necessary the macro ones) tend to have bloated egos tho.
but hey, as long as the clan is prosperous, their followers are happy to indulge in those caprices.
better not be useless lol, if you don't want to be quickly removed

i just imagine a super child like macro that has a room to itself filled with tedybears and stuff and hold all kinds of tea parties and all giddy all the time demanding all kinds of attention but turns serious on a dime once a outsider has to be dealt with outside the room being kept secret from outsiders to keep up the image and then tearing up once returning to the the room needing comfort from all the micros having to deal with it all the time cause the macro is really good and being the leader at the same time
i wish i could draw all the things my active imagination come up with......

survival is irrelevant with personality aslong as you have the ability
i know i would love it because it would be adorable
besides its only important for the leader to have a standing image when confronting others how they behave in private aslong as its not unreasonable means nothing

there is some kind of "social determinism" sorta where the macros tend to flock to the "heavy" work. Like lifters/mercs/miners/ etc, being naturally gifted for it.
"power" on the frontier is more about the connections you're able to make and macros tend to lack the networking for that.
A good clan leader is more measured by his allies/network rather than their raw strength (for exemple: their relations with the various guild, the deals they're able to make and if they're in favor with the core worlds)
A macro leader tend to be scary since they're not that easy to remove once they take the lead :p

Yep I can see that You need either really good plan (and bigger gun) or some one of their size that you can trust to not take your place when they take the big boss off.
This remind me was there some small mechs that the smaler folks might juse? I have a bit of an idea for possibe comm in the [Scavengers] universe.

I doodled a few mechs for the setting a while back but quite honestly, never been a fan of those. I can probably add a few down the line, who know, maybe a clan or two have the means to have some exoarmor/little mechs.
Excuse for the setting is the lack of spare parts, mechs being quite techy machines that the clans simply can't afford to maintain/repair.
Micros make use of shitty vehicles when they can (hovercraft, etc) but those are rare too.

I don't really have the time for the setting between commissions but peeps have notified me that "hey, i'm game for a scav commish"
two birds one stone kind of deal lol, expend the universe AND get the commission :p
sole stuff to be able to squeeze a char into the setting is:
>no hair (as haircut), manes n shit are fine, I mean, sona with the usual "brow hair, grey fur" doesn't fit with the artstyle
>non extravagant colors for pelt (you know, green n shit, welcome to boring land here)
feel free to ask me question through discord ;)

Still one thicc bih. I love how my first impression was that those were some fucking massive grapes, those sciency boi madlads don't spare any expense do they? What are those, like the smallest one's a good watermelon size or so? The rest are torso size and up,... makes good intimidation tactic during negotiation just casually popping one between the teeth in plain view. Fuckers are probably heavy too since they're almost all water, like 300 lbs? 4? 5 for the largest? Fok'n rad.
Also I noticed the conspicuous lack of pants, nor underwear for that matter. Bold statement. Nice god ray to cast a spotlight on the mishap.
Really I could gush about the details all over this thing endlessly. Like catburbs, and their pudy little fok'n cheeks.
For example, while I adored the fuck out of them in the sketchy version, much as I preferred the Lost Planet style orange glows the dashes of blue are a shock like ice water next to the bright oranges and reds of the fabrics and livery. Makes for added impact when your eyes are drawn to per brooch, and realize it too matches her eyes, certainly makes you think. It would have been so easy to cop out like literally ever other fantasy illustrator ever and turn the place into a vomit themed riot of color. Then there's little things like the depth of the hue on the scarves and capes giving them that regal air of being the highly trained and expensive guards while still having the worn and patched to drive home that no, these are just really successful salvagers used to getting the best out of the least.
And don't even get me started on those sexy metal fittings. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to blare the Bentusi theme at max volume while I pixel hunt for more details.

>bentusi theme
a man of culture I see :p
And damn man, thx for the comment :D really warm my cold dead heart.
Joke aside, I was a bit unsure about the monochromatic palette, happy it turned out alright :p
really happy with how the setting is turning out so far, we're very "early" in the developpement (many things to flesh out! architecture, clothes, etc) but hey, it's slowly cementing itself as something

Monochromatic? Hardly, restricted perhaps and that's the big part of what makes the divergent colors pop so much. This is quite literally the scene where a fruit might be likened to a gemstone in its vibrancy. Rather than overcompensate ya made a scene that feels at once both realistically mundane while still capturing the lively essence of the imagination. Take the shotgun shells of the lad to the left's bandolier, lined up next to the vine of grapes from the viewer's perspective. And just the fact that it's a cool color in a warm scene really punches through and draws the eye. Why if it weren't excessive a good writer could spend a whole paragraph and a half on the subtle metaphor.
All I do is call it like I see it and this is a masterpiece if you ask me. Can hardly wait to see how it grows and develops from here.

hehe, thanks :p
well I noticed that the gallery is very focused on characters so far (and close up) and it's pissing me off a little.
I'll try to see if I can stir future commissions/ personnal content on more "wide" scenes. That way i can draw proper backgrounds n shit, would be nice

Neat, I do agree, feels like folks haven't really taken advantage of your ability to set a whole stage. Hopefully I'll be paying attention enough to catch one. What was it,... Derelict? That was one to send chills down the spine, no lie had goosebumps for a couple minutes after. Then there was that one with the mech, 'n the little raptor duder, that one woulda looked great in a city scape or with a machine shop backdrop. Exploratory commissions like that would definitely be a treat to see.
