I did not create this work. It was painted by a street performer I saw in Sydney many years ago, and now hangs above my bed, where I'm sad to say I don't often look. This painting begs to be admired, and so I am sharing it with you.
This painting was done before my eyes in roughly half an hour, and was created using nothing but cans of spray paint. It was an utterly bewitching sight, possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Half way through, when a definitive landscape was starting to form, I would find myself gasping when the artist picked up a fresh can and sprayed all over the work, almost carelessly, seemingly ruining it. Then he would pick up a small piece of cardboard, perform a few simple strokes, and a waterfall or mountain valley was created. In another instance, he would turn the can upside down, and press the nozzle against the sheet, sending out a horizontal spray. After several repetitions, this forms the sprays of light you can see poking out from behind the larger planet.
I really can't stress how many times the artist appeared to destroy his painting with a random spray of colour, but he always rectified the situation.
Someday I must remember to repay my mother the $20 I borrowed to buy this picture, it really is one of my finest purchases.
