"Elliptical galaxy eventually collapses down to a spiral...
Or maybe eventually spirals all come together and form elliptical?"
-from Collapsing Galaxy by Xpiral
Well, I can't make a good looking spiral yet, and an elliptical would be a bit boring... So have something in between! Aka. "lenticular galaxy".
My earlier experiments with procedural volumetric nebulae inspired the search for more controllable methods. This image is not procedural, but the modeling part is just two squashed spheres and four rings. It's the volumetric "filling" that matters most here.
I realize that there are a few things that should have been done better, but that's the effect for now. There might be an update, depending on my mood, and commenters' input!
I'm uploading a full 1440p png file, so that you can use this as a wallpaper. I'm using it already myself.
