When a friend was in need Onta comes in and puts together the effort to create this magnificent fan book and we all chipped in to help. Awesomeness ensued.
Out of all of the fundraising projects for this community I've been in this one is definitely my favorite - albeit bittersweet. Getting a large group of contributors together to create an artbook? So kickass. It really says a lot about the community to continuously see people come through for each other. When I went to my first con and got to greet a lot of these people for the first time it only reaffirmed what I already thought about the community in whole - you guys rock!
To Miu, Ponygirl, and the rest of your kin... I really do wish you all the best!

If I would have known about this before it got rolling I would've offered to contribute. :|
The fandom surprises the hell out of me sometimes with the sheer outpouring of help and goodwill when things like this happen. I grew up in an incredibly religious family and never saw this kind of thing (but then I guess this goes without saying :P). I'm gonna have to chip in. :}

Indeed. (To the first part.) Miu's awesome and I would have loved to help with this. I have a feeling Onta approaching the artists involved, himself. Which is a shame. Some kind of call for submissions would've been awesome. He could have kept it private, said it was a collab book he was looking to put together, and to submit a few pieces to have your quality judged as to whether you'd get in. Ah well. Guess we'll be supporting with cash instead of art.
It's not about the art. Please, please understand that. Its not ABOUT popularity, or who you know, or the art quality. These are a group of friends, and co-workers, and we were not -approached- by onta like one approaches a clique or a club. We ALL came together and got involved about the same time.
No, a call for submissions would have made this disastrous and full of really petty drama over "who got in" and "who didn't". (It's already DOING that, ugh) and I'm finding it to be really selfish. =\ Yes people want to support him, and THEY CAN. It's not like this book is the end all be all you know? You can do art. You can donate. YOU can help!
Also the more people involved, the more chance of the information being leaked out and a big fuss happening. Asking for submissions would have been absolutely not feasable, if we wanted it to be a secret thing. Please don't take such offense, it makes me sad people are taking this personally like that. I'm happy you want the book though! I just really want people to understand this isn't about anything BUT helping regardless of who was involved. we would have been flooded with hundreds of pictures from people, and only able to choose a very tiny few. You know as well as I do that no one would wanna hear the rejection XD;;.
So, we opted for a secret small group. And who knows, maybe someday Onta WILL release a book in the way you mentioned, someday!

I think they way it was handled was perfect, as far as I've seen. c: I think the rejection from not getting in would be worse than not being invited. Plus, I'm sure it'd be very time consuming to go through applicants, when I'm sure this was planned to be done fairly quickly for Miu's sake.
Aw well thanks XD! Thats what worried me, the rejection thing. That's harsher then simply not knowing I think! It would have taken so long too and people would have kept sending things in and...yeahhhh. It was meant to be done even a bit earlier then now, but as always projects get a few small setbacks, but it happened finally!
Ah, no no, I'm not bitter over it! I've just had a few really good interactions with Miu and would have loved to have help. That's all. Maybe approached was the wrong verb? I certainly didn't mean it in the sense of a high school clique. I actually thought of that this morning, before reading your comment, that you guys were just talking and he went "Hey, I have an awesome idea to help out Miu, what do you guys think?!"
No! XD Not like "Hai gais we're doing a tribute book for Miu! Send in your entries, we'll pick the best!" More like "Hey guys, I've got a project going on. Can't tell you what it is, but there's x amount of spots, send in your best work by x date and I'll let you know by e-mail if you're in." And then y'know, include an NDA. But eh, as you said, there's drama over it regardless. Which is a shame, since that's not the point of this in the least. >< I'm merely disappointed I couldn't submit, but are people really stressing over this and feeling hurt?
I know it's not the end. I'm just an illustrator and I would have like to be able to help a fellow artist tangibly using my craft and not just my money or gift art, y'know? It would have meant more to me. (Not that those two alone or don't have value. )
Of course no one wants to hear rejection. Having been in college the last four years for Illustration, I'm used to it. When 25 people submit illustrations and only 1 can be used, some people are going to be disappointed. (Or y'know, all of us as the case was for the last illustration. Client had no clue what they wanted. ) Certainly people who aren't used to it wouldn't be able to tolerate it, yeah. XD;;
I can hope for that. Or better yet, I can just get myself involved and make myself prominent enough that people will come to me. That last bit might be dreaming a little too big, lol.

That's exactly why I'm curious. I really don't enjoy adult artwork(read: porn, not nudity) and a lot of artists I admire are contributors. If the artists I'm specifically interested in are in the PG book, I'm totally buying, but if there are more in the adult book, I might consider just buying it anyway because it's to help Miu, and I can just like, not look at the naughtiness. |<
I'm specifically interested in Tsampikos, you, Kami, Kayiko, Dingbat, Seel and Savannah.

I think this was one of the first images for the book I got to see, and when I found out you were illustrating for it, I about fell out of my chair because I had a feeling your smooth colors and cute squishy girls would totally pop in the book, AND THEY DO, totally! Awesome job on these <3!
Your art is beautiful by default. And it looks even better when it's done for a good cause. I lived something similar to Miu 2 years ago. I was interned due to some serious medical problems and couldn't work for weeks. After that, I had tons of problems to pay my bills related to the time I was unable to work. :/ In such, I really respect the effort of all artists involved on this project. Best wishes to Miu and all of you guys.
It consists of the same series of works as the full version... the only difference is that the more risque images were taken out and the price for it dropped in the process. With that said I couldn't really answer your question. I haven't seen what was left in the PG version. I will say this though: overall the female art outnumbers the male art by far.
