That's a very "straw that broke the camel's back" moment. I definitely get the feeling that she took it one step too far, but it was still hard for Malutki. They've been together awhile, but he still has a grudging respect for Rudek. Seriously, she thinks of tobacco profits?!

That makes just as much sense, and is just as believable.
We've seen her sincere regret and anger when she realized her graft had taken from kids. She has a heart.
With all the time she's spent with Malutki, it's no wonder she's latched onto him, even if she says nothing to that effect.
Profit is what she knows, and what she talks about. Feelings, not so much. Poor Malutki has had more honest conversations with Rudek.
