It looks a little less like something grabbing the diver and more that the tentacles are coming out of their back or the back of their head. Which would definitely make building a pressure suit for that pretty tricky, but I do kind of enjoy the mental image of "Lovecraftian fish people decide to explore the depths for themselves."
I imagine a someone operating a submarine or watching security cameras in some sort of underwater base. Everyone else is asleep. The operator is tired and barley paying attention as he fiddles with controls and flicks through cameras. Slowly, almost unnoticeably, through the darkness, in absolute silence save for the warbly sounds of water, this appears.
