I finally bought my Romanian WASR-10 AK last week, so after bringing it home, I had a little inspiration to do some sketches of the rifle and incorporate it into some STALKER themed fan art - with an anthro twist. I love this series and hope to play all of the installments soon.
So here he is - the Desert Fox!
A little back story to this one. Someone had posted up some free badges a few weeks ago with the pretense that the first three people to respond would get one. I went ahead and replied and was lucky to get the third slot. However, the artist decided to skip me over for someone else. So I figured I'll draw this myself.
Total time was about 10 hours from start to finish for this one.

not necessarily. despite the Zone itself having an overly dark and oppressive atmosphere, Russian artwork fits the "old propaganda" theme quite well (usually 'cause that's exactly what it is).
i totally agree with you on it being very well done, though. this guy is amazing.

Awesome! I expect to see this character wandering the Zone, soon. :P
I've been playing through the first game... I forgot how friggin difficult it is! If you're gonna collect stuff to sell, forget it. The weight limits are too ridiculous. But then, I've always enjoyed the exploring aspect of it most.

Not sure where I could find those, but I'll keep an eye out, thanks.

Just a little photoshop magic. :)
Actually, it involved scanning in an old sheet of parchment, then running some grungy textures on top of that with some noise added on top of it for an extra effect.
The same process that went into these painted textures in photoshop was applied to this piece.

I'd be happy to discuss the full process via PM if you're interested. Just note me.

I'm relatively new to PC gaming, so unfortunately not. But, after playing the series, I've definitely been hooked on the art style. Funny enough, there isn't a ton of fan art for this series out there - so I'm happy to fill the gap. Expect to see more of this style in the future.
I may do some Half Life 2 fan art soon as well and would really love to do a depiction of Ravenholm, which is hands down my favorite level in that game. Nothing like taking the grav-gun and shotgun to those head crab zombies! Oh, throwing explosive barrels at them is also gratifying. :)

Unfortunately not. I was never able to get in the army after having back surgery. However, I have a lot of respect and admiration for those who serve our country. On top of that, I have a fascination with guns and things that go boom since I've grown up around those things since I was very young.

Love to see a fur with an apperciation of the military. I grew up on base so I'm very use to having military people around me and it made me feel very safe so I know how you feel. Admitly the military isn't for me, but it's something I have deep respect for.
Now on subject~ I love this picture but when I see it I don't see Stalker (Mainly because I haven't played it xP) BUT I do see Metro2033, another very good game. I guess it's because it has that dark and griddy look with an AK at hand so I think about the Metro tunnels of Moscow :D

Metro is a fantastic title and I'm sure there will be a sequel soon enough.
As for the AK, it is by far the most reliable rifle you will ever own if you pick one up. They are not terribly accurate though, but let's face it - they were meant for close combat engagements, not long distance target shooting.
