So.. I am more than half way through my LAST PAGE of the 16 page coloring job for Heathen City. MY TABLET DIES.
osfer has been more than generous with his flexibility for my deadline. Tonight was the REAL finish date for it all, and I could not bear to let him down.
The tablet end of the connection died a few weeks ago so I cut it apart and soldered it back together. SUCCESS! When it died again tonight I almost lost all hope.. but I had one more chance. Computer end of the connection. Cannibalized an old USB cord of no use and ghetto-grafted it on to the tablet wire (picture in the bottom right corner). Would have soldered but time is short.
IT LIVES!! MWAHAHAHAHA.
Dear sweet 8 year old tablet, your job is almost over and you will be able to rest. A replacement is in order very soon...

I have a firstgen bamboo (not the ones that do touch), and the cable on it is a standard miniUSB cable that works with phones and cameras and MP3 players, so if the cable trashes up I just use a different one. The tablet itself is pretty beaten up though, it's thin and not very big so I have a habit of throwing it into my bag randomly to take it along places, where it meets things like CD cases, keys etc that scratch it up. But it still works good!
Out of curiosity how does the tablet pen hold up after all those years? Have you ever had to replace it?
P.S Great job on the repairs, as Mr. Eastwood put it:
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone. "

My three year old graphire4 has been ghetto rigged like that for a while and I actually just redid it last night. Also yeah, Alex tends to be really chill about stuff, I was running late on my page (I wasn't aware of the due date, he forgot to tell me lol) and he's just like, whatevs, everyone's late.
Stoked to see what you've done for HC.

From what I've heard.
From what I've heard the lower end especially is noticeable.
It has twice as many sensitivity pressures.
I own an intuos 3, but, I've done extensive studies on the Intuos 4.
As long as you get Intuos 3 nubs, from what I can tell, you'll be fine.
It has 2 usb slots, but, the USB part to the tablet removable.
There's a USB on the left, one on the right. I'm not sure if that's the case on the small, but, mediums up have it.
If you DO choose to use an Intuos 4 nib on your pen, you will see significant wear on your nib after just an hour.
I think (From what I've been reading), it's the surface of the tablet.
The circular thing that they've replaced the buttons with supposedly makes things better, and the functions you set the keys to, appear as text on the tablets on the medium sizes and up.
An intuos 3 pen will not work on it, from what I've read.
I'm not trying to steer you one way or the other.
If I were, I'd say Get an intuos 3.
I'm unsure if I want an intuos 4 or not myself.
I hope to eventually get the small cintiq.

Also I have a Wacom Bamboo that cost me $100, and I never ever ever use it.
