Hold the Presses!
A Thursday Prompt story

Prompt: lied
“You heard me!” the editor shouted into his phone. The porcupine’s quills were shaking in agitation as he repeated, “Stop the print run for today’s edition, now!” He nodded as the order was acknowledged, hung up the phone, and glared at the copy boy. “Get Carson in here, now,” he snapped, and the feline scrambled to obey.
Carson, a lean antelope with a casual air about him, slouched into the office a few moments later. “You wanted to see me, Boss?” he asked in a mild tone that instantly set the rodent’s teeth on edge.
The editor held up a half-crumpled proof copy of the article the antelope had written. “What the hell is this?” he asked, throwing the paper at the antelope, who stooped to pick it up. “The German Chancellor shows up for a state visit and sings to the President, and you stick it on the jump page!”
“I didn’t think it was that important – “
“It was significant! It would get peoples’ attention! You had no call to bury the lied!”

"Yes I did!"
"How?"
"Look, it was more important that the Chancellor was singing about coronavirus aid, and that the President, in counterpoint, noted that even after the Chancellor's plea, the pandemic was still going to continue."
"You mean...?"
"Yes. The song may be ended, but the malady lingers on."
