This is another one of Jasmine, the Missile Impersonating Cougar!
Jasmine is a very social little girl, and for being a tiny, 80lb lady, has the biggest motor of all the cougars I've worked with to date. When she turns on the purr-machine to the high setting, she can easily be heard fifty feet away. Her chirp, should the purr not be attention-getting enough, is piercing enough to rattle your brain and send a chill up your spine, even at the same fifty-foot distance. She's really quite demanding of attention, and has to have it right NOW!
Inside it all, Jasmine is a very gentle soul; she just has a very violent way of getting her attention fix. There's just nothing more pleasing to her than to be picked up, held tightly, and scratched and fuzzled the whole time.
I said it in another pic of her in the gallery - forgive me for repeating it here - but going in the cage with Jasmine has it follies. The trick is to get right up to her as quickly as possible, otherwise, you leave yourself vulnerable to Missile Attack (tm, pat pend). Here's how it goes:
Jasmine starts out on the far side of the cage. She crouches down, and puts those little, built-in cleats into the ground for maximum launch capability, revvs up the oversized turbine engine to full power, kicks in the afterburner, and then launches on a direct intercept course. Once she hits airborne velocity, she takes to the air, and meets up with the center of your chest about three-and-a-half nanoseconds later at an relative airspeed of mach-two. She then explodes into a furry bundle of joy and purring.
There's two outcomes here: A) you have your back smartly against the fence and you manage to catch her in mid-air (which is what she wants), or B) you’re standing there stupidly with nothing to hold you upright when she hits (remember that equation from physics? Energy = mass x velocity squared? In other words, you don't have a chance!). In other words, you're not standing any more, and you are now staring up into the sky - My! What lovely clouds there are today! - with a fuzzy, purring, 80lb weight perched upon your chest, pinning you to the ground.
In the end, Jasmine gets what she wants either way. Her singular purpose is to take you under her magic spell - sorry, no saving throws! - so you'll hug her tightly in your arms, flip her upside down, and scratch her chest until she's satisfied.
So this is a quiet moment, where Jasmine is found, recharging her batteries, laying mostly quiet, but with that head in the upside-down way that cats are sometime wont to do. I just couldn't resist snapping a few shots before she moved. I've always wondered if cats do that just to see the world from a different vantage, just to keep things in clear perspective. Maybe Jasmine will tell me someday.

You do deserve it! The other photo's i find are crappy, taken from a long distand making them blurry, or pictures where they use the nearby enviroment to take the focus away from the animal itself.
I want to see the cat, not a nearby tree that's blocking the view of half the animal. How am i supposed to draw a lion if there's a tree blocking the view of 60% of it? Your pictures are'nt like that... Yours are good:)

Thanx much! I guess I'm my toughest critic, as I really hate having any form of cage in my pix, but most of the time, I can't avoid it.
In any case, I'm glad you like the pix. I've only got two - I think - pix of Mufasa in my gallery, but if you're into lions, he's there. :)
Thanx again for the compliments, Sir Kaine. Our of curiosity: Are you really in Norway?

Actually, no, i'm not in Norway right now. I am currently studying media in Sweden. But i am FROM Norway and i've lived there all my life:) You ever been there?
I've been here in Sweden for about 4 months now, and i'm gonna stay here for another year. After christmas(2007), i'm guessing i'll be mooving back home again. Then the job hunt starts:p
Oh, and i've already favorized those lion pics:p

I was just wondering, as your English is supurb. :)
I've never had the opportunity to get to Norway. I'd like to go, as I've heard the whole universe up there has some really breathtaking beauty.
I hope you're having some fun in Sweden in the meantime. Good luck in advance on your job hunt when you're finally homeward bound again!

*Blush* Thanks:) I've studied English for over 12 years now, and now i speak and write it every day, pretty much all the time. I'm actually starting to forget words from my native language:p Wich is a weird experience when i'm home and i HAVE to speak in my "old" language and i need help to find words that i really should know:) That's just so awkward:p
Norway is a beautiful country. Northern lights, fjords, the open sea, forrests, mountains... We don't have anything that you can't find in the states, but still... It's really worth a visit if you can afford to go there. But it's not a place to go if you don't have much money(Just a friendly warning:). I wish i had some pictures to show you, but i don't have any avaliable here in Sweden:(
The place where i live here in Sweden, is a lot like Wyoming actually:) Just remove the hot springs and it looks just like that place (I hope you've been there so that you know what i mean:p). I love it here. If i can get a job here later, i might just stay....

(Shasta grins) There's not enough cougars on FA, I don't think, and I'm still upset that there's no category for them. There's one for "lynx" but not cougar? What's up with that?! :)
I'm glad you understand on the whole copyright thing. I try not to get too goofy about it. After all, the pix are here so people can enjoy them, and I think redrawing them also fits into that. I look forward to seeing your finished creation. :)

they need like a catagory for ligers too- i see lion i see tiger..... and oh tigons and ligers DO exist O_o we're not just like invisible XD
i agree though- if you can have a damn lynx which i hardly see any of, why not a cougar?! X3 though my bfs cougar was made a cougar by mistake but i think the tiger design would've failed anyway >3 besides he's fine as a sexy cougar X3

Animals are the perfect creatures. Most of them love unconditionally, canines are a great example. Cats are a little different, in that you have to earn their trust, and /then/ they'll love you forever.
In any case, you're very right. I agree completely. Animals are awesome creatures. I will always believe that humanity has an awful lot they could learn from animals. :)

I pretty much couldn't agree with you more, and I really try and take a lesson or two from animals myself. Personally, I think I attach myself closest to wolves though, because I tend to be a very family oriented person(and the friends I consider family) and I like working on accomplishing tasks together. Though, there are many other qualities I can say I share with cats too. And surprisingly enough, I tend to have a greater affinity towards the cats.
All and all though, I'd say I'm one of those unconditional lovers (unless given a good reason to think otherwise) like you pointed out with the canines.
Say, I think I know something that might interest you. After I get done with my deployment in Iraq, I'm planning on a volunteer trip to Namibia, to help support the cheetah conservation acts going on other there. And I'd just bet that you'd be interested in some of the photos I'll be taking on my month stay. Let me know what you think.

I'd definitely be interested in your photos. No such thing as viewing too many animals pix!
By deployment, I have to guess you're military. Active Duty, or reserve? What branch?
I was Navy, Active Duty from '94 to '00 and Reserves until mid-'03. Now I'm a civilian engineer that still deploys with the strike groups. I'm underway now more than when I was a sailor.
(Shasta snaps to attention and gives a salute)
I salute you, Sir. Thank you sincerely for continuing to fight for Freedom. Stay safe on deployment!

Heh, alright then, I'll make sure to keep you in mind. It's a lot more motivating to take picture anyways when you know someone else might enjoy viewing them later.
And yep, I'm in the Military. Minnesota Army National Guard to be specific, I was expected to be back home this March actually, but Bush's new plan called for an increase in the troop numbers within Iraq, so I got extended until mid July-early August time period. So yeah, that's going to be almost two years away from home U suppose, but I'm fine with it honestly.
Hehe, no need to salute little ol' me... I'm still a youngin' yet (I was 18 when I started this whole deployment business), and I have hardly attained the merit and/or rank to justify such honors. You on the on other hand, deserve as much respect. *Snaps to attention and sharply salutes you, hastily followed with a firm hand shake* Thank you sir, for all your past, your current, and your future support of this nation, and all the free peoples within it.

"babble"! ... Sorry, some words just get to me XD
I am very glad you add the story to your photos, some artists and photographers don't bother. I really enjoy reading about what inspired the artist to create(or photograph) a piece.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures!
