being a ranger is by far the most dangerous job a Hillander can have. they are very well respected and admired by regular citizens.
Hillanders have an intense aversion to violence, pacifists by nature they don't resort to lethal means unless absolutely forced to. concepts like guns would be completely out of their scope. the closest to an actual weapon they use is blowdarts, most rangers refuse to even carry knives with them.
