The filled streets were busy and loud on this day just like every other day within the town of Sainten. Rumbling vibrations of trollies on the tracks, horse hooves trotting to get to their destinations, even the annoying sales men were on the street corners trying to get anyone's attention to make a profit off of their product.
Snoozing above the stables was a woman whom was well known by word of mouth. She would often be in a place one moment then in the blink of an eye she's gone to another place. As she woke from her slumber she looked around to get a feel of what time it may be before she mounted her stallion to begin her journey back to her "home" of Valentine.
Like her Romani ancestors she never stayed in one territory for to long. They travel to where the work is, follow the traveling entertainers or meet up with other parts of their community. These people are better known as Gypsies, known for their slick tongues and sly behaviors; seen as thieves or simply criminals. Though unlike her ancestors she is found alone when in the town of Valentine but does have friends in other territories.
This woman is known by the name, Corvessa.
As the cold night took hold of the sky Corvessa wandered down into the streets to the back woods behind the small saloon on the lower end of town. Meaning the police could almost care less about what happens within those trees or they just don't have a clue anything is happening.
Roars filled her ears from cheering men as she got closer, in the middle of these men were two fighters beating the absolute crap out of one another. Punch after punch landed on each mans face until one finally fell to his knees revealing his opponent as the victor. Money started getting thrown around due to won and lost bets on these men.
"Next up for the fight we have Corvessa The Swift versus Camari The Animal! Place your bets! Both are undefeated! Place your bets!"
The announcer did his thing while the two women paced slowly back and forth like predators waiting for the kill.
"Fight!"
At the signal these skilled fighters began their brawl. Upper cuts, dodges and kicks carried on for what seemed like forever to anyone who had placed a bet on one of them. The roars and cheers grew louder and louder than normal with each passing minute to light the fire in these women. These excited pumped up town folks were so loud that the deputy having a late night drink was disturbed in the large saloon all the way on the other side of town.
The fight raged on until the sound of a gun being shot into the night sky causes everyone to scatter like roaches in the day light. Corvessa and Camari were at a disadvantage when it came to escaping due to the open wounds on their faces. This was the only reason the deputies men could stop them from completing their get away.
"I did nothing wrong!"
"Neither did I! It was a friendly fight!"
Protesting against these men as they were being dragged to their jail cells to be greeted by the chuckling sheriff who was lazily leaning back in his chair.
" The wounds on your bodies and the money found near your names says other wise, ladies. Those cells should calm you down real nice. Sleep well. Let's go get some drinks boys." He flicks his lit cigar into the cell where the bleeding pissed off women stand. Corvessa quickly picks it up chucking it right at the back of the sheriff's head as he leaves. All he does is scoff before saying. "You'll soon pay for that,Gypsy." Closing the door behind him.
Spitting blood from her mouth Camari gets settled on the floor without a word simply to sleep knowing there is nothing they could do for now. Corvessa felt the same way but instead laid on the bed to give her legs a break. Sleep soon took them both; resting to prepare for the new day ahead.
With a swift smack to the back of the head Corvessa is literally smacked out of her slumber.
"Up and at 'em princess." Camari was standing beside the bed with arms crossed a long her chest gazing down upon sleeping beauty.
"We aren't gonna get out of here if we stay in dream land. Get up."
Quickly she had to swing herself backwards to avoid the flying fist coming straight at her face by one angry woman laying upon the bed.
Releasing a humor filled laugh Camari responded"You are much more feisty than the women for sale at the bar aren't cha', princess? "
"Fuck you." Corvessa rubbed at her throbbing temples before she looked around to notice that it's still quite dark outside; was she only asleep for an hour or so?
"Maybe some other time, for now we gotta get out of here." Sliding a blade from the inside of her belt, it being hidden away from where the deputies normally would look for weapons of any kind. This gave them the tool they needed to start working on the lock of the jail cell door.
"Why are you even helping me? Don't your people dislike those I run with? Even dislike me?" She barked out from the bed after ten minutes of silence had passed from Camari starting on the door.
"Many people leave us, that doesn't mean we stop caring. Personally? I don't have any feelings toward you because I don't know you but you were close to some people I am close to so in turn I have more patience. Plus, you put up a good fight with those fists of yours so obviously you learned something in your time with us."
"You don't even know what you speak on."
"Not in detail but I don't need to know the full story, somethings just dont work out and we move on. I've done it, my brother has done it, shit some of the highest ranking people have left the kingdom for a period of time. We all make choices, it's how we handle those choices that reveals who we are. That's why I'm not leaving you in here to rot."
"Pun unintended." With that lame joke one unimpressed Corvessa heard the blade snap the lock free allowing Camari to open up the cell door and sarcastically bow.
"After you,princess."
Already completely annoyed with a bunch of other thoughts roaming through her mind, she got up from the bed kicking Camari right in the gut as she was bowed over.
"I'm not a princess and you have a lot to learn about me, 'Animal', but thanks for doing all of the work anyway."
With a deep huff of breath one rather impressed Camari laid upon her back on the jail floor a hand resting against her now kicked gut as her free hand lifts to reveal a thumps up when seeing Corvessa making her way out the back door of the prison.
"Yup. Cool. Gotcha."
Days have since passed while Corvessa made her way to any other territory that wasn't close to Valentine; she will return once things settle back down. The stallion she rode on to Valentine was grazing on the grass just outside of town limits when she escaped, I guess she counted that as something in her favor unlike recent events that have played out. Despite trying to get her mind back on track she couldn't help but think back on her time with the group of people Camari spoke on.
It had been many months since she ran, played and fought a long side her old family. Among them she found a love, many friends and even a few new skills under her belt. No one truly knows what pushed her to take her leave away from the Kingdom but in the end everyone has the right to stay or go. These days she is often found in the ROT territory, a band of folks that love a good fight and will do anything to achieve victory. She settled in well among them for the time she decided to remain within the territory; as a gypsy she still needed her time on her own and her own freedom.
"Damn Bitch." She cursed Camari for getting her mind all kinds of messed up. She stopped her stallion only to gaze back toward the territory she had just left behind.
Speaking of the devil, she to had since escaped and made her way home to The Kingdom where she shared her stories of her time with the infamous Corvessa. She shared them in a funny happy tone in hopes to entertain her friends around the fire. The fun tales fell differently on others ears however. At the corner of her eye she noticed a man approaching the fire where all of them were resting for the night.
"Well uh hi there,Billy!" Greeting him as he sat down upon the tree trunk they used as a natural bench, once looking at him she noticed he had his dad look on his face.
"Welcome home. You came back with quite the story to tell but be careful roaming alone, you know how your mouth often gets you in trouble. I don't want you jumped by them or anyone else that may run beside them."
" I'm a big girl I think I'll be okay."
With a soft grunt from his nose Billy continued." You have been hanging around with Millie and Ruby a little to much." For once Millie didn't say a word but she did flick him off while taking a drink of her whiskey. Ruby was far to distracted cleaning her rifle to even pay any mind to the conversation.
"You all are strong but not invincible, none of us are."
"Not even you." As a new but familiar voice interrupted their late night banter they all turned their heads to see Corvessa standing among them. Billy instantly stood while the rest remained relaxed around the fire, she was in their territory so they had no reason to be tense but are always on their guard. Camari sarcastically chuckled as she spoke.
"Well I guess you just couldn't resist my charming words and amazingly good looks huh, princess?"
With a simple eye roll toward such a null remark she turned her attention to Billy.
"We need to talk. Alone."
No one truly knew what had brought Corvessa back to the land she left behind but it was rather obvious that her presence may not sit well with everyone because where she is someone else is never to far behind.
An hour or so had passed before Rayna comes from her home to join the small get together around the fire. It didn't take long for her to notice one of the things here didn't belong.
"Did you take a wrong turn,Corvessa?"
The Queen of The Kingdom territory nonchalantly shouted over her shoulder to the two ex lovers having their discussion; not expecting a response as she sat down in any free spot that may have been open on the ground. She to feeling no threat or uneasy about this woman's presence. She felt more uneasy with the fact that Ruby and Millie were seeing how close they could get an half empty whiskey bottle toward the fire before it exploded.
"She must have if she ended up here among all of you." At the sound of a not so familiar male voice answering a question that truly had no answer caught the attention of everyone in hearing distance. This man was known around as Killshot, leader of the ROT territory, he was often not welcomed simply due to the fact that trouble is usually not to far behind him.
When hearing his presence Billy and Corvessa made their way back over to everyone only separating once reaching the fire.
Camari being Camari got up only to go over to Killshot as he got off of his horse and slap him on the back.
"I guess she made the right one actually huh,Bud?"
When his angered face didn't change she simply smacked her lips together.
"Welp! Okay."
" Camari, leave him be." The sarcasm fueled woman grunted at the sound of her brothers demand, Jessy had made his way over to the small gathering upon hearing the man's voice.
"Let him get what he came for and leave." He stated which caused some objection from Billy.
"She doesn't have to go unless she wants to man."
"She's the only reason he's even here."
" Well, he can leave just as he came."
"And she can go with him before the whole Rot family shows up."
Before Billy could speak again he was cut off by Corvessa lifting her hand slightly in front of him. Rayna smacks Jessy on his shoulder blade like a puppy that just pissed on the floor.
"Until next time,Billy. Next time" She tenderly touched his arm as she passed by him to return to her stallion. The two men exchanging some final glares.
At the end of the day this woman is well known for doing as she pleases no matter what. She's a gypsy after all, sneaking and having a skilled tongue are some of her best skills.
The ride home was silent for a total of two seconds, Killshot questioned her non-stop with really no avail. She never explains herself to anyone unless she wants to do so, her stubborn nature really prevents this but nevertheless his questions still continued.
Why was she in a rival territory? Why was she alone with the enemy? Why didn't she come home?
Why?
