Question about magic, something you brought up before when talking about jia, you mentioned holy magic, and white magic, and there's the lai'ban elemental sages of earth, fire, air, and water, but I notice Calista seems to use electricity, and arkane from appearances seems to be either pure/neutral/void, so what are the different elements/types of magic that exist?
Tbf, the list of magical elements/schools/spheres is rather big, and even in-universe most of that knowledge is scattered and incomplete. There are some magical trees that are quite unique, while others are overlapping with others. Eg: Druidism and Nature Magic are very much alike in most aspects, but they differentiate in how they are being taught. Druidism is, obviously, practiced by druids and people who train under them. Meanwhile, Nature Magic is used by Rangers and Green Mages and the like, who do not necessarily are in-tune with nature like Druids would be.
Likewise, White Magic is practiced by White Mages, Clerics, Shrine Maidens, etc, and while it offers a wide array of beneficial and healing spells, it does not compare to Holy Magic, which supposedly channels the user's faith and the power of their god(dess) and can even resurrect the dead - tho this feat is very much limited to the most powerful Priestesses.
Then you also got magic that aids in the creation of things. Alchemy, Artificing, Rune Magic, etc.
Magic that directly command the 4 main elements (Aeromancy, Pyromancy, Terramancy and Aquamancy)
Magic granted by a foreign entity, such as Chaos Magic - drawing directly from the Demons of the Netherworld, and the results being completely random as a result. A spell could be super effective, or absolutely backfire in the most horrible way - depending on the mood of the demon that answers your call.
Arcane Magic, which- as the name implies, calls onto the power of Arcane. Death Magic / Necromancy, forbidden arts and rituals to spread death and decay, and reanimate the dead to fight for their master. Black Magic, involving mostly curses and spells of extremely potent destructive capability...etc.
A lot! :P

Not quite. Quite some ages ago, there was a man known as the King of Mages or "Mage King", a title given to him for being the most powerful male spellcaster known to all. When the Eastern Continent's relentless invasions started and kept going for years and years, the Western Continent's forces were pushed to the brink of exhaustion and collapse.
With his own allies not giving him the support he required, he took it upon himself to stop the invasions for good - by sending the large peninsula connecting the two continents to the bottom of the ocean - and everyone on it along with it.
His own allies branded him a traitor and a monster, so he fled to finish his work, killing those who came for him, and headed to the ocean. There he created a time-and-space distorting tower, dubbed the "Spire of Isolation", in the middle of the sea - which would alter the flow of time between the two continents, creating a nearly impossible-to-pass, fog-covered sea that ships would enter, cruise around for days, and yet always return to the same point they entered from, seemingly seconds after they entered.
After his deed was done and the sheer amount of magic that coursed through his body - he started to feel its corruption take hold, so he cast a ritual to preserve his spirit inside a magical orb, and ended up taking his own life before he would lose all sense and reason and become but a monstrous magical aberration.
He teleported the orb back to his hometown, where it would rest until many years later, when someone needed to add his strength to their own.
The corruption that Jake (and the one before him) experience is the same that eventually would have turned the Mage King into a creature of pure destruction. While it is a bad thing (slowly growing until eventually it reaches the heart of the user, upon which they either die, or become a monster themselves), it also has its upsides, such as being near-impervious to most weapons - serving as a means to block and parry swords and magic alike.
