Alternative Title: Street Frogger.
Oh, my god, I actually managed to get this done. Last possible day, but here we are. I'd have been embarrassed if I declared Frogust and then didn't actually draw anything, but work nearly knocked me out of the running. Got something up, though.
Anyway, this is Cammy, turned into a frog by . . . You know what, I have no story. I really don't. I just picked Cammy purely because I saw myself using her camouflage as frog spots and still wearing her hat. Of course, once I picked her, it raised a whole bunch of other problems. Her color pallet is extremely limited and nothing really worked as a secondary color for her belly, so I've just left it the same green as her main color. I considered red of her hat, but . . . no, too bright and high contrast. It would have been painful to look at.
There's other things I didn't expect to give me so much trouble. Like her arms. I wanted to incorporate just how JACKED Cammy is into it, but no matter how much I tried to find a balance, her arms either looked too human, or they didn't look muscular. In the end, I erred on the side of muscular. I'm sure I could find a better balance than this if I worked at it long enough, but today's the last day of the month and I told myself I was going to post this on time, even if it meant last minute.
I also wanted to imitate the pose of her Super Street Fighter sprite, but that one is really awkward for this anatomy. The hips are rotated in a different direction from her shoulders (a fighting pose) and I just could not figure out how to make that look right in a frog's anatomy. In the end, I settled on cheating a bit. I drew her legs as if they were a normal pose and just sorta arrange them in a way that sort of implies the pose I was mimicking, but doesn't really fit it. The result is . . . not what I would have preferred, but it works, I guess.
The other challenge was to keep the muscular element, while also keeping her clearly feminine, but without drawing actual breasts. Some people might have liked to see a frog with tremendous boobs - yOu WeIrDoS - but I don't like violating animal anatomy too much. The aim was to anthropomorphize just a bit, not draw a human with a few frog features. the result is . . . well, I need more practice drawing muscles, I guess. I'll take it, though.
The decision to also leave her with her bracers was just because drawing her wrists was driving me nuts. The bracers took more time, but I could make them look a lot better. And I was surprise by how much easier it made drawing her fists. I mean, it's not perfect, but it does look way better than most hands I draw without tracing.
The last thing that gave me trouble was the symbol on her hat-badge. Mots of the references I found were either too low resolution for me to clearly make it out, or were more focused on Cammy's ass and how much of it was visible in her ridiculous combat outfit. Thanks to
cecaeliafanatic for helping me find a clear reference pic.
Um, yeah, I think that's all I've got to say about that.
Next time I do a silly themed month thing, I'm probably going to go for October. There's probably already a Witch-tober thing, and I've got some witch characters who need a little love, so maybe I'll try to draw some of my witches that month.
