The first piece in a small series I did for Anthrocon 2010. This year's prehistoric theme is beyond awesome! My dad is a big dinosaur nerd and kind of passed it on down to me, so I am extremely excited. I couldn't help doing several themed pieces =P
So this one is the first that I did, a little microraptor (one of the feathered dinosaurs). I had a lot of fun making up his colors based on both those of modern birds and artist's interpretations of dinosaurs. I did leave off the second set of wings on his legs, they didn't really look right and I had seen drawings of microraptors without them anyways.
More to come!

Cute. There are two different species of Microraptor, gui and zhaoianus, the latter of which had not been found with feather imprints. Therefore people took to illustrating it without the hindwings that have made this animal recognizable. So even though drawing it without hindwings has a precedent, it's definitely more accurate to include them. But who cares, it's still cute. ;)
I didn't know AC had a prehistoric theme this year. Man, that really makes me wish I could attend. Oh well.

This put a huge smile on my face when I saw it in the AC 2010 book! It's just so funny how his feathery butt is sticking up so high in the air! His smiling face is also really funny! The rainbow colours on his arm feathers are really cool! How could a killer dinosaur look so cute?
