Meet Nyra Rivara, she will play a major role in my story that I am writing as she helps Axton to overcome his grief and loss. I loved developing this character and I cannot wait to see how she develops in his story!

Nyra is an Eastern Sergal that was born to a poor village close to the primitive shorelines of Tal next to the great saltwater seas. Her clan was that of nomadic fishermen and privateers who valued prowess through battle and of raiding other clans who lived in the many villages that dotted the Tal's shorelines. Her upbringing was harsh and unforgiving, as children in her clan were expected from an early age to assist the adults with daily chores. Chores that would contribute to the clan's daily activities of raiding and pillaging as well as the back-breaking tasks of hauling in the many fishing nets that her clan used.
Even at an early age Nyra stood out from the other sergals of her clan, she would watch as the other members of her clan would return horribly mauled and injured from the raids. On the rare occasion that should we accompany the adults on their raids, she would find that many of the raided villages had healers of sorts and healing balms that they wound use to tend to the sick and the wounded. This quickly caught her attention due to the fact for the most part her people were a rather primitive and superstitious in their lives. They had seldom if at all used anything to help themselves to heal save for the occasional bandages and would pray to their gods for healing. As a result, the mortality rate was terrifying high for her people in which Nyra decided to learn more about these strange healing balms.
This quickly earned her the ire of her fellow clansmen who saw her practices and fascination with 'medicine' as almost a sacrilege to their beliefs. As a result, she became shunned by her own people and even her own family who were the most vocal against her practices of medicine and healing. The experience for her was simply heartbreaking but she took bitter pride in the fact that the people she was trying to hard to save were at the same ones that were against her. Nyra for all intents and purposes was a pariah among her people and her practices and knowledge seeking was done largely in secret. She would only be able to carry out her ministrations on those who were either too badly hurt or ill to resist her aid. As well as the occasional more enlightened members of her clan who saw the value of what she was doing but instead of vocally supporting her would rather stay quiet.
Day to day life became extremely difficult for her, instead of diving for the fishing nets her people used she would instead dive for underwater plants and herbs for their medicinal value. When her people would go out on raids Nyra would stow away onto her people's boats they used and as the fighting was going on she would sneak away to gather as much as she could about the village's healing practices and medicinal knowledge. Before she would sneak back onboard and return to her village to study their contents. Occasionally when she was caught she would barter her way out of trouble with other valuable trinkets she found. Or if the situation was dire she would escape off the boat by jumping into the water and concealing herself until she could slip away.
It finally all came to a head one fateful day when her mother and father were both injured during a raid, despite protests and dissention she administered to her family using her newly acquired medical knowledge to care for them. Through her careful care and staying awake for days on end her family eventually survived their injuries and would go on to live. However despite surviving their wounds she was shunned and exiled by her clan for using 'forbidden knowledge'. And that her practices were an affront to their gods and despite her pleas to stay and benefit to her knowledge she was cast out.
Today Nyra lives a solitary and relatively peaceful life almost like a hermit having turned her little hut home into a clinic of sorts, caring for the injured and the sick who came to seek her help. The insides of her home are full of shelves with various healing products and balms that she uses in her administrations. Despite being alone she is more than capable of defending herself, many of the travelers that come seeking her aid are warriors who in exchange for treating their injuries would teach her how to protect herself. As a result she has grown quite fond of a spear/walking stick that she has used to chase off those who have tried to take advantage of her kindness.
