Any person can be in pain no matter how unruly or calm their life may be at that point, even if someone took all their worries away, pain is pain and is often relatable to those who suffered similar or the same. Poor Battam.. and also poor Sal for being able to relate to it so much, i can't fathom what more he has had to endure aside of his already broken life for him to relate so well to Battam's pain.
