After settling on the layout and design of Luthien's bedroom and completing a piece to show it off, I wanted to do another illustration with her actually in the room. Another candid moment that would give a peek into her day-to-day life. I had designed a rather pretty vanity desk for her that I wanted to draw one more time, so I've got her sitting at it brushing her long raven hair. She's plucked a rose from the bush next to the vanity to tuck into her hair when she's finished.
I don't think Elves would worry much about their appearance from a vain standpoint, being naturally beautiful and flawless. But I do think they take care of their looks - clothing, jewelry, hair styling and accessories etc. This would require at least a few minutes in front of a mirror, so something like a vanity desk shouldn't be too far of a stretch. I found a really pretty one online and personalized it a bit with green glass panels resembling insect wings or leaf veining, and a butterfly at the top. The drawers would likely hold jewelry and a few grooming tools.
I'd like to continue little scenes like this with Luthien. I have always drawn her naked in the woods but that's really only a small part of her persona, and I want to expand a bit by creating more images of her doing things instead of just posing. An elf who has lived for a few hundred years would certainly have many, many hobbies and skills, so there's a whole list of potential activities for her. :)

This is just gorgeous. I love the detail you've put into her hair and her fur texture in general, and it's such a nice, serene moment, too. It gives her a sort of thoughtful air, as if the hair brushing is as much for a moment to herself to think as it is to work out the tangles. And the soft pink rose she's picked to wear in her hair would look so beautiful in it, too. I really like the design for her vanity table, especially the moth/butterfly motif on top. And you have so many wonderful little touches, like her anklet and the little rose petals scattered on the floor around the rose bush. Not to mention the delightfully intricate pattern in the rug. I sometimes think that half the fun of your art is finding all these tiny details that bring them to life and transform the scene from a simple picture into a window into Luthien's life.
I would love to see more of her hobbies and day-to-day activities, too. I adore the pin-ups of her, but you've done so much to bring her to life over the years, I can only imagine all the fun and interesting ideas you might have for her.

*hits the fav button so hard* Luthien is so pretty, and this is just a lovely serene image of her. You just nailed this one so much. And show me one girl who doesn't spend at least a few minutes every day pampering herself in front of the mirror. :) Both the vanity and Luthien herself are positively gorgeous. ;)
I don't know if I can say anything that hasn't been said already, but I absolutely love this. Luthien is so beautiful and has such a wonderful air of serenity to her in this moment. The background is simply stunning, especially her vanity table and all the tiny details like the pattern on the carpet or the intricate loops on the planter. And hey, just 'cause you're an eternally beautiful, ageless elven being, doesn't mean you can't enjoy adding a few little personal touches like the rose, or styling your hair just so. Besides, it's a very human touch and I've always kind of liked to think that elves are probably as fascinated by humans as the other way around, whether they admit it or not.
I would love to see more like this, too. Someone as long lived as Luthien would be bound to have all kinds of interesting hobbies and things to do, and getting more of a glimpse into her world would be fantastic!
