Another rough instalment in my “Nova Fox” Star Fox AU.
Fox McCloud, having chosen to disband Team Star Fox to settle down with Krystal and raise a family, found himself in need of new employment. Thankfully his connections in the Cornerian Defense Force through Wing Commander Bill Grey and General Peppy Hare got him snapped up by the Cornerian Military Academy Flight School where he was offered a position teaching their “Advanced Combat Course” and a Major’s commission. In due time he’d gain a promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.
Teaching the new generation the lessons and techniques that led him to victory so many times (as well as learning some new tricks himself) satisfied his warrior’s spirit in ways that might otherwise have been unsatisfied during a time of peace in the Lylat System (although there were a couple of years where Falco Lombardi convinced him to be his team-mate on a G-Zero racing team.)
The aviator sunglasses and full beard have pretty much become a look for him, as distinctive as his red neck-scarf.

Nice to see an older take on the characters. (Only saw a glimpse of Fox & Krystal with Marcus in their ending from command. Lots of open area for design on what they'll look like in the future.)
Sounds like a good career for him to take, and with reputation + friends in the CDF, it's pretty much guaranteed.
Wonder how far of a rank he'll climb before officially retiring.
Now an important question is... are barrel rolls taught in this course?

I’ve tried to use as much canonical stuff as I can in my own speculations, hence Fox fully growing out the goatee beard he was sporting in that ending for Command. Much of it is just extrapolating from likely or ideal outcomes from my perspective. What else would the heroic Fox McCloud do if he was no longer a combat pilot but had concerns in case war should return? Flight Instructor seemed obvious (though I doubt his adventuring days would be completely over, nor Krystal’s if only on the small scale new parents could indulge in it).
I have engaged a little in the OC side of things by also giving them a daughter, Sabrina, although she’s not a new Star Fox member like her older brother Marcus, so she could still potentially fit in that ending. I figure if part of Krystal’s motivation to start a family is to make sure Cerinian culture doesn’t completely die with her she wouldn’t stop at just one kid. I’ll be drawing them next, I think.
I’ve considered that Fox would at least reach full colonel before retiring, though that would depend on what stories Team Nova Fox might have that would drag the old team out of retirement.
And yes, of course barrel-rolling is taught. It’s one of the core defensive manoeuvres of all G-Diffuser enhanced fighter craft, even nearly three decades after it was first demonstrated in the Lylat Wars.

That's a good way of making the designs.
As for adventuring it'll be interesting to see how the old generation and the new do things. Such like how Fox & Krystal could teach Marcus and the new generation a trick or two as they've had many experiences from Sauria, etc. And the new could always surprise the old with something up their sleeve.
Always interesting to see more children of Fox & Krystal. I've seen many daughter concepts and they all are fascinating. Some have their daughter be more Cerinian (blue fur - like Krystal and Marcus) and perhaps even the Cerinian species' trait of telepathy (which I think Marcus possesses that ability?) or more Cornerian (orange fur - like Fox). It's a mix and match of combination for the two. Would like to see your drawings of them in the future.
And of course, if she's the last of her species, the only survivor of her planet, then one of the natural things is to make sure her kind doesn't die out. And if she's from royal linage (I like to think so from what she wears, though not enough information from Nintendo to confirm) then that's perhaps more motivational factors.
(Though I have seen fan works where there's a few or more Cerinian survivors, but after suffering such a catastrophic event like your homeworld being destroyed and the ??? death of an entire species - the need to reproduce may be very strong.)
A good rank to reach.
And now instead of Peppy I imagine Fox telling you to "Do a Barrel Roll!" over the coms. But always good to pass key skills and tactics along to the newer generations.

I still like to keep the Cerinian stuff vague in this AU. I think having it be mysterious is a quality to itself but in terms of fleshing it out I’ve taken as much from the original brief for Dinosaur Planet as I can in terms of her family and background, but certain things I’ve chosen to alter because I feel they help her story more now she’s part of the Star Fox universe.
A lot of my interest is in thinking up engaging stories and scenarios, so the idea of maybe encountering other Cerinians does have appeal, but then I’d need to think about what they’d be like and whether they all have telepathy or if they display other “magical” powers.
Marcus has pretty much inherited both Fox’s latent precognitive abilities (his “instincts”) and Krystal’s telepathy. This is a potent combination that has made him a talented pilot and combat specialist and also very charismatic (he really wants people to like him, after experiencing some bullying at a formative age due to his unusual fur-colour and his famous father). He’s a big damn hero and not all that academically gifted, which makes him come across as a bit of a himbo at times in contrast to Sabrina (though his squad-mates sometimes wonder if he’s putting on a bit of an act and he’s actually smarter than he lets on, because he knows people find talented but dumb to be an endearing trait)
Rina looks more like her father in coloration, resulting in her resembling Fox’s mother Vixy in some regards. She is a lot more obviously studious than her brother, being somewhat obsessed with her Cerinian heritage, possibly because she looks so ‘normal’ compared to her mum and big boy blue. So she wears her fur-markings with pride, styles her hair in styles her mother has shown her and has made it her ambition to discover as much as she can about both them and other magical cultures in the Lylat System and beyond. She too is both a weak precog and strong telepath but while she’s a capable pilot she has chosen to focus more on personal combat with her mother’s staff (proud that she’s better with it than her big brother) and also with the sword like her namesake, Krystal’s brother, Sabre.
I too have seen some interesting takes on Krystal and Fox’s other progeny, and I’m sure my oc is not particularly unusual, which is why, at the time I’m focusing on this future Krys and Fox are expecting a new baby. A bit late, I know, having another child in their forties but I like the concept while leaving that child’s character and fate intentionally ambiguous.
