Did you guys know that wombats can dig 2ft wide burrows, 6 feet long, in around an hour? Sometimes their burrows can get 100ft long total. I had no idea they were so industrious. That's why I like being an animal artist: when someone commissions me to do a certain animal, I learn a lot about the critter first for inspiration, and it widens my already expansive appreciation for the natural world. Animals continue to inspire and amaze me.
This piece was commissioned by a client, a wombat for her friend's birthday. I hope they enjoy it!
