With two gyms using recycled mechanics from the Kanto gyms, and so many gyms boiling down to "get to the gym leader with a twist" gyms, there wasn't a lot to say for this gym ranking. But, Alola has no gyms in it, does it? Well, believe it or not, I've come up with a special segment for the Alola region, and that segment is called the "Pokemon Island Ranking". Here's how that's going to work: I will look at each of the normal trials (the ones where you fight wild pokemon then fight a totem pokemon at the end) for the island, then look at the battle against the island kahona for the grand trail, and will consider how far into the game that island is. That means I will only be doing four slots for Alola, but Alola only has four island. And no, the Ather Paradise DOES NOT COUNT as it has no trails or grand trial even if it feels like it is. And no, PO TOWN IS NOT A TRIAL SITE. Sure it FEELS like one, but it's not. Even in the games when you enter Po Town, it does not come up with the "Trail Start" banner like it does for the actual trails. If you WANT to make the stretch that it's a trial, you COULD say it is one, with the Totem Pokemon being replaced by Guzma, and the the wild pokemon being replaced by Team Skull Grunts. But for the purposes of what I'M going to define as a trial which is what the game defines as a trial, it's not a trial. That won't meant I won't factor it in for the overall ranking however. Regardless, this new "Pokemon Island Ranking" segment being done for the Alola games is why I decided to go with the title of this series being "Pokemon Region to Region" and not "Pokemon Favorites and Gyms" which was a title I was thinking of going with originally, but decided to go with "Pokemon Region to Region" because I knew Alola had no gyms.
