Yeah, if someone was going to assassinate him, it might look a lot like this, hence he's not taking it well. While the Daryil sitting at the desk is just an avatar, it is possible for the suitably powerful to use his link to the avatar to get at the real Daryil and kill him, a trick which happened a number of times in the Dragon Wars. Anyone powerful enough to breach his wards is likely powerful enough to do that too.
