Even so, a 5 plus invul save doesn't help you for long, especially if you are a lone doode running about just waiting to be hit by an ion canon and plasma. Trust me, space marines are one of the easier armies for us Tau to kill.. Infact they are the easiest army for us to kill, aside to Tryanids if everything goes alright.
Oh wait no, Pansies and Dark Pansies are the easiest armies followed by Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Wych Hunters, Tryanids/Orks, Necrons, Daemonhunters(They may have IG in them), and Imperial Gaurd.

If you think the Tau eat Space Marines, you must have played against people who didn't know how Tau operate.
Fave strategy vs Tau? Drop pod 1 Dread Behind them, one on their flank, deep strike my Chaplain's Termie Command Sqaud next to the read dread and teleport my Librarian Termie Command Squad on your opposite flank, then Rhino rush right at ya. Dreadnoughts and Chainfisting termies will eat all yer base. And since my Libby has an Iron halo (4+ Invuln, Biatch!) and my Slap Happy Chappy has his Rosarius (4+ Invulnerable) and the Land Raider leading the charge across the board has a my Ninja Techmarine with 7 melee attacks and a 2+ save, plus 1 Twin Linked plasma pistol, 1 standard plasma pistol, a flamer, a power weapon, and two powerfists, and terminator honours, and is attached to a squad of Assault Marines sans jump packs, oh, and my Land Raider has improved comms, so I get to reroll one reserves roll per turn.
In other words: You, good sir, fail.

Wait wait, where does this actually beat my army? I honestly fail to see how this is any different then basically every marine I've fought, they try to deepstrike thinking if they get in on my and around me they'll automatically win, what they fail to realize that in close range firing, when all marines can do is shoot (Bwahahahaa bolters) instead of assault that turn. Trust me, I've killed almost every kind of Marine army you can think about other then the Total troops army of space wolves, nothing but foot sloggers just hundreds of marines, I still won but it was only a minor victory.
Trust me, marines don't scare me, you could deepstrike 20 dreadnaughts by me and I'll find a way to kill them lol.
The only armies I have troubles with are the Guardsmen they are insanely tough to fight against my friend who basically could win at a gamesday without being frustrated through the whole thing. And completly raider and nothing else Dark eldars with all wyche's, it's basically a matter of how fast I kill their damn transports.. Usually if I get the first turn I win no matter what cause it's not hard to kill 10 of them.. But if I get enough unlucky shots, WOW danny I'm screwed, the only thing that can do much of anything are my stealth and crisis suits in close combat lol.
Oh and I've really been learning that that marines really don't stand up long against barracuda's.

I'm just saying I know it works. I've beaten two tau players with that strategy. MAYBE if you had good rolls you could do well, but when you have about 14 Terminators assaulting your guys with only one round to shoot them, and your guns just bounce off... well, its not going to end well for you.
As a side note, how can you expect your tau to do jack shit against my Deep strike assault when I rape your army with somewhere around 40 shots the round they land? Remember, dreadnoughts will have 4 rending S6 AP4 shots each, plus my two heavy flamers on each, and I am fielding something like 12 terminators, 2 with Assault cannons *another 8 Rending shots*, two Cyclone Launchers that can be fired the same turn as a Storm Bolter (meaning you are going to lose two or three depending if I shoot krak or frag missiles.), and you are taking another 20 shots from Storm bolters.
Been there, wheathered that storm easily. Either you shoot my crisis suits, and have your teriminators have a "Little" more safety and have your dreadnaught ripped to crap by everything else at my fire warriors can kill it even.. Quite easily I'll add.
Your storm bolters don't make me worry any, Your 20 storm bolter shots vs my 96 Pulse Rifle shots, which you will be facing if you are worth anything as a space marine commander, yeah your chances are, here let me figure this out for just your 14 terminators, At 2 plus you should make only 46 of those saves. Then Rail gun kills your dreads, or heck Ion canons work just as good, strength 7 and 3 shots, works great too.
Basically space marines are easy to kill, every army has special tools and fun things to do it easily, Tau are no exception, unless you roll 6 on your every roll minus your leadership rolls, I can take you down.

Gah.. fucking hot keys...
Ummm... actually, you are forgetting to account for Space Marine toughness, which according to my math means that assume absolute averages gives you 10 confirmed kills with the guns you listed firing at the termies. See, with a 3+ to wound them, you are gonna get around 63 wounds with the pulse rifles, then figure 1/6 are going to beat their armour (though in reality its likely going to be alot lower...) and you are getting torn limb from limb while only killing very few of the terminators. Meanwhile my Dreadnoughts may die, they are just there to shoot a bunch and draw heavy fire away from the termies. In fact, tommorow I have arranged a game with the Tau player at my gaming store, and am going to try drop podding my entire army on him. Give him a target rich environment, get my marines into melee (yes, a tactical marine will curbstop your average tau unless they have kroot with them). So don't go bragging about Tau being invulnerable to losing, because I've seen it happen. ANY army can lose, it generally all comes down to a roll of the dice.

And, just to give a comparison, on the first round of shooting, going by pure stats, a buddy of mine with a Bachelors equivilent in Mathematics says that your Firewarriors would only make an average of 5-6 kills, while my marines in shooting range would make between 16-18 WITHOUT the Dreadnoughts Using their Heavy Flamers.
20 shots, you're going to prolly kill 2-3 a round of shooting, you'll be killing a hell of alot less of my suits. Trust me, my avarage of rolls is 4, markerlights on them I'm going to hit basically every one of my shots, I'm going to wound almost all the time, and you are going to have to make 60 some or more 3+ saves, hell I'll roll the dice for you take pictures, and then you can roll the saves, screw it I'll do it on a webcam recording for you even.
Now, you think you're stragety is gonna win and you keep swearing by it but thats the thing, you obviously haven't used this, or haven't won doing it, or haven't ever played a Tau player (Obviously because of that plasma mistake, they kill a teriminator basically every time they shoot) or you wouldn't be hitting me with 4 messages a night defending your deep strike reliant stragety.
I love it when people put all their eggs into deepstriking, love it when you land into difficult terrain, or into one of my squads etc lol.

As an addendum, the only truly broken army in 40k is the Necron, because GW R&D got high and decided to see how broken they could make a race and still get people to buy it. I heard of a store near where I live (well, about 60 miles away...) where something like 80% of the players have necron, and only two of them field the Deciever, instead of the Nightbringer.
ive tried saving my spar change, got up to roud 400 bucks and now just went out and got buckets of 9mm and 357 rounds, im on a double handed pistol spree right now, not half bad ether, with my two 6shot 357 i can empty both at the same time in about 3 or 4 seconds and makeem group a foot across at 10 meters. i dont know if thats good but i think it is.
