I could have not but I wanted to, so I did. You explanation makes sense. To me, fishing for the fun of it is like sticking hooks into kittens, as someone who loves and cares for fish. Most people wouldn't turn a blind eye to art of people enjoying that activity. That's just how I see it. So, I said something. And I feel better having done so. That's all there really is to it.
