Yup yup. And I don't mean just an iconic flag, but I'm hoping to get a real flag we can walk around with at meetups / furcons. More representation and publicity for NY Furs!

Once I get a group approval, I'll send in to the Flag designers and they'll quote me. Should be no more than $40 I'm guessing. From there, I'll (or NY_Furs) will post the needed money and maybe ask donations from the group? Maybe? ^///^

But yes, any suggestions on how to improve the flag would be great guys =D

Why don't we just buy some canvas fabric, some fabric paint and paint this on.....its not that hard to draw an outline of this on fabric.

Professionalism I guess. I mean that's do-able, but my personal opinion was always that "if it's cheap enough, let them do the professional labor."

Sure, but if you make it a group project, then everyone feels involved. Professionalism aside, its not like the group is a big deal. AND....consider that many of the group really doesn't have much money. I don't want to see or hear of someone bitching about someone else paying more than the rest and claiming the flag as theirs and yada yada yada.......... It'd be the perfect setup for arguments immediately if someone felt the rest of the group was slighting them or ended up with a beef with someone. Just considering future arguments. If you make it a dollar donation from each member (and if i missed my guess we're close to the amount) it would be easy to say that everyone pitched in and no one could claim anything otherwise. The flag would also be the responsibility of the admins alone in this case. None of the non-admins would be allowed to keep the flag. I think that could solve arguments there.

A group project would be a pretty nice idea, but as the group is getting bigger by the day I feel we're slowly approaching "Furst-State" status (didn't know how else to explain it XP ). Sorta why I'm leaning towards a professional printing the design rather than going the homemade paint+fabric path.

I really like your idea of the donation limiter (but of course anyone can put in extra if they're nice ;3 ). And yes, the flag would likely be held by me or the admins. (Likely the admins as I'm always college-bound, and also not an admin). When the price come in, we'll decide how much to ask.

Yes I liked that one too, but the people I talked to before this was posted on NYF liked this flag over the other one. Both are good with me =3

I'd suggest maybe making the outline a different color, if only to contrast with the paw. I'm sure there's another official state color somewhere we can use for it....

Only problem is that the official state colors are only Blue and Gold. Was looking around to see if there was a 3rd and unfortunately without success. That's why I made the outline more yellow than gold. I'll play around with the colors a bit, but not sure if I'll find something better.

Maybe another idea would be to add a thin (1px-ish) black line to the inside of the yellow outline? It would be hidden in the black parts and still separate the paw from the outline.

Hmm... that might be a good idea. I'll try it out when i get the chance.

Something about it doesn't sit right for me. The paw in the back just seems like it's an afterthought - hard to figure out what it's supposed to be unless you already know what it is.

I know there's potential © issues with using the "I (heart) NY" logo on a larger scale... but it's a WELL recognized logo / symbol.



BTW - I was born in Brooklyn, raised in the middle of Long Island, moved to Buffalo and now live "Past West Jesus" in the Western NY "Ski Country" area.... so it's NICE to see all the areas here! (Especially The Island)

Funny thing is that the paw was initially the main focus. Before, the paw was on top with the State or StateFlag inside, but that didn't look that good. Shrinking the paw actually made it look worse, as it then looked like someone stuck a paw sticker on the flag (perfect example is  Idaho_Furs). Main thing is that this flag are representing furs, for furs. So, I kinda feel that furs looking at the flag will know it's a paw, and know it's NY.

I know that our icon as a flag would be well recognized, but as you said the "I<3NY" will be a copyright issue, and none of us would want to deal with that. Other reason I don't want to make a "I(paw)NY" flag is that is that every New York Tourist shop sells some "I(Insert soemthing)NY" thing, and it's really unoriginal. Just felt like we could do something a little more original.

The question is should the state flag be a paw like above or something to do with the goddess Liberty and the goddess, Justice in the coat of arms for the state?

The prior (and first) design had the paw on top with the NY State flag inside the paw. I was going to use that idea but it was shot down early for this flag.

I like it, but the outline of the actual state is kinda choppy, i think if ya made that a bit more smooth it'd be sexy though. :O
