Every planeswalker knows the feeling of touching down on an unknown plane, without any of the prerequisite knowledge to gather their bearings. The psionicist is no different in this regard. However, overtime he's accrued techniques which help navigate even the most confounding terrain.

See here, after finding himself deep in a forest of an unknown realm, Enigma uses his own magic to mark a nearby tree with a psychic resonance, allowing him to detect exactly how far away he is from it, and which direction it located in, so long as he's on the same plane. In this manner, he can establish a fixed point from which all other directions can be derived.

Since he started doing it, navigation has become much less of a problem than it used to be in his less practiced days.
