“Hopeshot!” Julia exclaimed, dashing into the abandoned warehouse.
“Sprout!” the supervillain squeaked, their hands hesitating over a mysterious device. “How did you find me?”
“We had reports that you were spotted in this area,” the hero replied, walking up to them. “Since I know your usual patterns, it didn’t take me long to track you down.”
Hopeshot laughed. The two were only a foot apart now, and the villain moved closer, closing the distance. “You know me well, don’t you?”
“Indeed.” Sprout grinned. “How long have we had this cat-and-mouse game, you and I? It’s been five months, hasn’t it?”
“Five very interesting months,” the villain admitted. There was a faraway look in her eyes, but she quickly snapped out of her daze. “Regardless,” Hopeshot said, patting her device, “today is the day I finally reach my goals!”
“So, what is that thing?” asked Julia, staring at the machine. It was about as big as a violin, with a case on the floor to boot. “It’s not radioactive, is it?”
Hopeshot giggled. “If I’m correct, this device is capable of dimensional travel,” she explained to Sprout. “Finally, my aims have been achieved!”
Julia’s eyes widened. Dimensional travel—just like Georgina’s remote! But devices like this were banned by the government—which was the main reason Hopeshot was stuck on the side of villainy in the first place. Sprout had been justifying things all this time because it was her girlfriend doing the traveling, but could she justifiably destroy a machine like this? It could help her and Georgina, too. . .
“Well, Sprout?” asked Hopeshot. “What do you think of my invention?!”
Julia’s heart was pounding, her brain racing with adrenaline. Before she knew it she was lifting up her cloth mask to reveal her mouth, and then she kissed the villain, right on the lips. Their kiss was long and deep, and in it, she tried to communicate one thing: “Thank you.”
When they parted, Hopeshot was blushing madly. “Oh. . . Oh my,” she squeaked. “That was. . .”
Realizing what she’d done, Julia quickly put her mask back down. “The truth is I’m grateful for your device,” she admitted. “And . . . I’m grateful for you, Hopeshot.
“I think I’m falling in love with you.”
