I would add that the gang changed a lot under gantus rule, and with time as well(some of older member simply gone away I suppose) and Kalita relation with her gang members was not what she thought it was. As you and other posters higlighted, she confused fear for true friendship and respect. Much like Muko confused simple job relation for friendship(Nyarai, her cafe coworkers) and lust for genuine love(her teacher).
Because they are young women, (but also Cookie is only slightly better, in the end)

He was supposed the one most close to Kalita, and yet he show absolutely no empathy toward her, I understadn he is probably high as kite and lost in his lust for Gantus, but come on.

i've only been reading since the last 300 or so pages, but i gotta say... i'm really liking every badguy i come across. the protagonists do not have their shit together, they're wrong about pretty much everything and they go about everything the wrong way. I know it's a trope to see the protagonists rise from their low points, but with so many low points as these... yeah. I'm sorta hoping they continue to lose, heh

I think this is due that there are 3 main protagonists(Muko, Cookie and kalita) whose background had to be shown in proper time. And that two of main protagonist are actually quite young, and well tend to have that warped view of the world typical of young people(childish trust for Muko more teenagery rebel for Kalita). I am actually growing fond of the by the pages, but yes Villains are incredible in ths comic

i'm sure it's supposed to build up sympathy; for me though, maybe my tastes are different, but it's making me dislike all the main protagonists. They're so faulty that they pretty much deserve to lose

Truly a tragic end to the fight. Leyline, her former friend, leads the rest of the gang to mock Kalita while she's down. Kind of a dick move considering Kalita did a lot for them and they were scared of the thought of fighting her a few pages ago. Gantus calling Kalita a bully is a bit undeserved as the definition fits him more than her. It's not Kalita's fault that she ended up fighting people weaker than her. Some people are born strong or grow stronger faster than others and you can't hold back in a fight. Not even Kalita knew about her strength problem until now.

You said it right. Once you think about this is a narrative Gantus is selling to his followers, in order to say that a) kalita is not the stronger, he is and b)her and Debbie values were only words, truth is they too believed that strenght make right.
Kind like a script someone wrote for him....
Is something that he planned from the begin. And as for Kalita's and Gantus actual strenght...i have been thinking. Kalita as you put it, never thought about how much strong she was, she liked being a biker and an occasional brawl, but never put herself to train into becoming stronger because there was no reason for it. Gantus on the other hand...does not fight like brawler, but much like Nyarai and Peki show some refined fighting skills, not the sort of stuff you learn simply by brawling randomly but putting your mind to it with a definite purpose. And his behaviour in the fight imply that he studied Kalita's battle prowess very well. While she had no idea of how strong he actually was, much like no one expected Nyarai to be powerfull enough to defeat Adelgund.

Every page Gantus disgusts me even more. And now it's confirmed: the gang got too deep to have any redemption. If Kalita leaves the gang she won't be a coward like Gantus want her to believe: she will be the only one to notice that he's taking them all to a path where all will end up either locked up in prison or dead (either by fighting the police or OD'ing)

I think his big plans for the gang are something akin becomig a son of anarchy style biker gang, in the service of yakuza tile becoming indipendent. But i fear tha tin this case HE, Gantus, is the one deluding himself. Given the quality of the gang they cannot be more than thug for hire.
You are right, even if it hurt Kalita, and will hurt her for long time being, leaving the gang is the best for her at this point. she tried to keep it from becoming a full criminal gang, but she is only one vixen. Debbie was right, she foresaw this, when bedridden and simply forgotten by her former friends. And gave Kalita a sincere advice

A Fighter with purpose, is a Hero. A Fighter without purpose, is a Bully....Kalita must find her PURPOSE to fight, to gain the strength she needs to overcome her obstacles.
