STORY TIME!
So a few months back, I was playing Might and Magic on a binge involving the first 5 games, and in those adventure, there was a Gnome by the name of Rye, involving a party comprised of Yeast the Half-orc Fighter, Barley the Human Paladin, Hops the Elf Ranger, Rye the Gnome Thief, Malt the Human Cleric, and Mash the Elf Sorcerer, these absolute mad lads went across multiple worlds, systematically getting their shit pushed through by some of the most horrifying things this side of the spiral, eventually, they inherited godhood, saving many worlds in the process, then got drunk and went adventuring again.
As to why Rye has a halberd, simply put, Thieves were able to equip them, and shields were basically pointless, so, pole-arms baby!!
