A little while ago someone asked me what happened when Zee's Hoshi no Tama breaks. Traditionally the Hoshi no Tama is said to house a portion of the kitsune's soul, so realistically if it's broken the kitsune loses a part of themselves. At first I took this to mean they just poofed into smoke and disappeared forever, but since then I've decided that Zee just loses his magic when his Hoshi no Tama breaks. He can't use any of his spells or illusions, can't take on his anthro form, and only has a single tail regardless of how many he had before.

It's quite possible there's a way to reforge Hoshi no Tama though, it's not super clear where kitsune originally get them (are they born holding these orbs? Are they given them by Inari? Do they make them themselves?) so I think we're able to interpret it how we want. Though if anyone does have further knowledge about this, I'm always looking to expand my understanding of kitsune folklore.
