Well, it's not that bad to name your weapon, as it's not all that different than naming a beloved stuffed animal. It's just that in the same vein, it's a personal connection, not something you expect others to acknowledge and respect/fear or something.

That's fair, it is more in the "expecting the name to intimidate people" than in the act of naming it itself.

Right, a name is just a name until there's a context behind it to give it weight, like what he said about a bard's job in that.
