The critically endangered California condor is as rare among the birds of California as californium is among the transuranium elements with regards to applications – californium is the heaviest element with practical uses, as a neutron startup source for nuclear reactors and in neutron imaging for aircraft parts. Fluttershy, the animal lover, finally makes an appearance among my Periodic Ponies entries.
