Yeah, it's a Key Deer, from the Keys in Florida. Done in pencil, ink, and 14-year-old brown Crayola marker and regular alcohol markers, on a scrap of printmaking paper (which bled ink a lot)

This redneck deer idea was sparked from a photo in Wikipedia about Key deer, and the general softness and tenderness that I perceive in deer in general. <3 I love them so much when they come around the area.... well until they raid my fruit trees and eat the climbing flowers... but anyway...

This guy needs a name. He will be developed into one of my very own characters, already has a story, and is a lot like me. He's a redneck deer for sure, probably dancing to either a massive new UK dancebeat, or hopping over some thick country tune... because you see, o/~ you ain't gotta be born out in the sticks, with an F-150 and a 30.06... o/~ to be a redneck. And rednecks aren't actually any of those stereotypical things you hear about. You'd have a great time hanging out with 'em; I am one (like he is) and I know lots of them. :) He wears the kinda-obligatory camo shorts though, and of course bright orange shirt to warn off hunters, and his life sure isn't one of ease, but he's workin' for a livin' and making it where he can. This is one of those times when he can let himself loose a little and dance with his buddies, probably out in a field with a cooler full of drinks and iPods on the truck stereo blowing out whatever they all like to listen to. A hot day, on a truck bed, on four wheel drive, and the rest of the week to look forward to, that's what I imagine he's doing now.

One more thing, he doesn't have a name. Anyone got a good name for him? Something that reflects either Florida's regional culture or history, or something in general about American history. He's a real country deer, and smart too, wonder what they call him....

This pic will be scrapped now, and a real clean refsheet of him will appear, sometime... I love how cute he is, my gosh *bounce squee* sillydeer. :3
