In Link to the Past for the SNES when Link entered the dark world for the first time he was transformed into a anthro pink bunny.

The transformation made him unable to use items, swords, hats, and pants.

AWESOME, except for the unable to use items part. hehe

Well basically you could use the Magic Mirror to move back to the normal realm and thus change back to normal.

However, to use your equipment in the Dark Realm you had to find the Moon Pearl in the mountain tower. The moon pearl's magic protected Link from curse over the Dark Realm, allowing him to maintain his human (elf?) form within the Dark Realm.

The Dark Realm causes one to take a shape that reflects what are in their hearts. The pure intention in the boy that was the last in the line of knights transformed him into the rabbit, showing he was free of corruption. Not even Gannon was immune to the effects of the world, being transformed into an enormous demon by the Golden Power within the Dark Realm.

... Erm sorry, I tend to geek out at the drop of a hat whenever Zelda games come up.

Link to the Past was a lot of fun. If you have a Wii it's on virtual console, and I believe it also got a re-release for the GBA.
