One of the twin pups, a year old when their ages were combined, had seen a streak of golden brown flash between the leaves of the sturdy bushes that grew on the craggy rocks overhead. Their elder brother, Sam, a yearling wolf, had noticed the tell-tale movement of branches, light, and shadow and had hurried his younger brothers into the small thicket behind them, his barely cut adult fangs bared nervously.
"What's wrong?" asked their dog babysitter, one white rimmed ear fastened on them, the other turned towards the movement above them on the cliffs.
"Silent Killer, on the rocks above us, Ms. Wielder," Sam snarled as respectfully as he could. "We should leave."
Wielder turned her head just in time to catch a long tail twitching inquisitively through the branches. Turning to smile, she shook her head. "What kind of wolves are you to be afraid of a cat?" Before Sam could object at the judgment of his benefactor, she was leaping as gracefully as any canine ever had up the face of the cliff.
The great cat's black ears twitched. She had heard the commotion of the pups, had been greatly amused by it...but now the rustling was getting louder. "Those pups had better get better at hiding or they'll have more than me to worry about," said the she-cougar.
"I'm no pup."
Ji turned towards the impudent statement, her eyebrow raised in confusion. It had been many a year since a common creature, let alone a wolf, had confronted her. "My my, you're bold for your kind," she smiled, stopping her silent steps for a moment to regard the silly sight of a dog perched like a four-legged bird on the rocks beside her.
The canine shrugged. "What do I have to fear from a cat? Your kind share the streets with mine where I am from," stated the wolf, matter-of-factly, her brown eyes taking in the large paws and confident blue stare of the cougar in front of her. "Though, I must admit you are larger than any I have ever seen, but that still doesn't explain why the pups fear you so much." Wielder's coat grew bristly with the thought of the cat ever having harmed one of her charges.
"You've got to be kidding me," thought Ji, chuckling at the courage and naivety of the dog in front of her. "Well, your "streets" sound lovely, Wolf, for I so do admire your kind though I rarely get to talk to one as my People and yours can't seem to get along," said the great cat, her voice smooth as warm sap. "And that explains the unfounded fear your youngsters have in me. Now...why don't YOU have that same fear that all Denmothers seem to bestow unto your Kind at puphood?"
The wolf looked back at the cat, giving her a crooked, rapid-fire smirk. "You have done nothing to me, and I have done nothing to you. Unfounded fear leads to hate, and unfair hate does none of us any good."
The cougar blinked, allowing the words to sink in before she continued on her way. Throwing one last glace over her shoulder, she said, "My name is Ji. Tell that to your young friends. I'd much rather be called that than Silent Killer...though that does have a nice ring to it."
"And I'm Wielder...and I have no People." Before the cougar could turn around, the canine had lept down the vertical incline and was encouraging the pups out of hiding. The cougar allowed the three youngsters one glance of her glorious sun-colored pelt and sky painted eyes before she faded into the forest.
"Wielder...I must remember your name. You amuse me, Grey One."

as the ice wielding lioness, but she was once a cougar named Ji. So, here she is, in Wielder's storyline.
Soon to be completed.

Wow, once again, the expressions really captivate me, and the body language goes along well with them.
I really am getting attached to the story behind these pieces. Is the full story of Wielder written down somewhere that I might read it?
In any case, well done as always. I do hope you find time to color this one.

Even at a younger age she was quite the daring Wielder that we know and love today :P
I'd much like to see more interactions between these two. Knowing things I do about Wielder makes be rather curious to see how said scenarios might transpire.
In any case, another well written piece of prose to go along with your art; how I do enjoy them.

Well, she's not too much younger here. She's just brazen and a little less diplomatic. I'd like to develop the interaction between these guys a bit more myself. Emira is a dear friend of mine. So, it'd be neat to see how we'd interact in a storyline together.
My mistake, the commentary about the pups and how Ji referred to her as a pup made me think she was younger here. It is quite interesting to see how she reacts to a much larger kitty than she's probably used to seeing. I have to agree with you there as well, sometimes seeing another individual's character and how they interact with said individual's other characters (you're a perfect example) makes me want to have my characters interact with them as well, because I think the engagement would be very interesting.
But, I ramble on. Keep up the good work, I really do enjoy your art ^^
