It is the time of Mabon, the great pagan harvest festival. Valcyrie, who is a wicked little witch and neopagan has spent days working in her garden, harvesting all of her crops. It has been a lot of work, but it's worth it. All around her house are bushes with herbs hanging from little ropes to dry, their wonderful scent spreading through the house as soon as you open the door. On the night of Mabon, the autumn equinox, she holds a great feast for her mates and friends with traditional medieval cooking, some dishes going back as far as the iron age. After that she holds her rituals and casts her magic.
On the day after it is always time for peace and serenity. We see her here, snuggled up against some pillows in her little cottage on the countryside. Her altar with candles and crystals are whats left after the ritual, a small haze of incense still in the air. Val herself sits with a sketchbook that she was given by one of her mates, curiously doodling away. She loves to draw, but almost no one knows that, and neither does she draw anything in public. She draws for herself; to dream, to vent, to explore herself. Page after page is scribbled full before she folds it over and starts anew. She doesn't even know herself what it's going to be. She just starts, and goes from there. She loves to doodle.
This is something she has done since high school. She was always the little nerdy goth girl with glasses and a shoulder bag, who contained more sketchbooks and pens than actual school books at the time. And she would always be found out in the school yard, her back propped up against a tree, doodling away. She might be grown up now and no longer in school, but the tradition persists. As autumn comes and the semester starts, Val doodles. And she probably always will.
This was a wonderful gift from my sister
lovesremorse that I got earlier this summer, but thanks to its theme I wanted to wait to upload it 'til it was the right time. And this is indeed a lovely piece to celebrate Mabon with~ Thanks a lot!
