Patron of: doors, especially the gates of the underworld.
Appearance: A man with the head of a jackal, or a full jackal.
Description: Upuaut means, "The Opener of the Ways." In war, he opened pathways for the armies to cut into the armies of their enemies, and he opened the doors of the underworld for the dead. He originated in Upper Egypt as a cemetery god, and was later transformed into the god of death proper. Each year at the Feast of Osiris in Abydos, a statue of Upuaut would be carried at the head of the procession. He is regarded as the son of Anubis.

I read it all - said he was originally a WOLF and occasionally the jackal because of the similarity of the jackal to the wolf. And even when drawn as a jackal he is white or gray because he was supposed to be a wolf, not a jackal and the colors represented that. Even the hieroglyph shows Upuaut with a wolf tail and not the Anubian jackal tail.
I know but you state him as a jackal when he is a wolf. He is mistakenly depicted as a jackal though which is actually wrong. I did a paper on him for English in high school when I had my huge infatuation with Anubis and looked up Wolf-Gods in Mythology.
